When you meet the red dragon on the bridge, go under the bridge and move close to his right underneath, you can see his tail wagging to the right, hit it with arrows and itll eventually come off and you get the drake sword, you can do this at any level, sword does about 200 damage!

Always block when you can, and circle around enemies to get em in the back. Use land elevation to your advantage, you can often hit an enemy from lower ground and he cant hit you, its subtle but it works. Also, always keep moving.

If you're looking for some high adventure in a dangerous way, ha. Run into areas that are way above your level, then just run around avoiding enemies looking for higher level gear, its fun and crazy. I got a great stamina boost shield early in the game this way, you'll probably die but you get to keep any items you pick up. Keep your equip load below 25% to move the fastest.

Before a big boss fight, you can practice it with no loss by putting down your soapstone to be summoned. Sometimes it takes awhile but you can be summoned to someones game and you get to keep all the souls and if you die you just go back to your game.
Wow, thanks for the tips. There is a lot more to this game than I thought. I never played Demon Souls so this type of gameplay is new to me. I think my problem is that I have crappy gear.

Also, what is a soapstone and where can I get it?

The soapstone allows you to play coop in other peoples game worlds. You use it on a spot, then it will appear in someone elses game world as a mark on the ground, they can summon you and you will be transported to their game to help them, it's lots of fun. Also if you are in human form their marks may appear in your game world and you can summon them. Typically you'll find them right before a boss.

You can get it at firelink shrine, you will find an elevator in the firelink shrine area, to the right of the guy who sells you miracles, it wont be active yet but you can drop down below it and go through a tunnel, you'll find a few treasure chests, one has the soapstone. I spent a weekend being summoned into peoples games it was a blast. So far I've done up to 3 of us. Taking on a boss with 2 other peeps is awesome, so is seeing the wildly different characters people make.

You'll really want to use a wiki for this game, it's very deep...

When I played I wasn't too lucky with the drops and died a lot with up to 3k souls. (not far in by the way... so a lot for me)

I think I was like level 5 or 6 when I reached the dragon.

I rented it again yesterday, ended up getting the drake sword as well as lost 5k souls because I wasn't expecting a few really hard enemies to respawn near the Undead Parish. I did get that sweet helmet from the boar though, it's huge...

That's part of the game's dynamic.

You are left with an ultimatum: do I go back to the bonfire to restore my health and try to fight through these enemies again, or do I see if I can make it with what little survivability I have to the end of this area?

It's actually quite an interesting dynamic that makes every situation, area, and choice have actual weight and consideration. It makes for very compelling and interesting gameplay in my opinion.

I wish it was. Luckily I have a PS3. games like demon's souls are a great example of how the console crowd is not all into easy mindless games. Games like demon's souls and dark souls don't go unnoticed or under appreciated despite not being on PC.

This game being on the PC would result in endless hacks and exploits.
