AMD hasn't lost anything - Page 6

I would love to run Benchmarks. I travel for a living and will not be home until the weekend. Unfortunately this weekends Benchmarking though is limited to some Artificial Neural Networking applications for another contact. We are stacking it up vs other AMD, and Intel offerings in this department. This is extremely specialty and I doubt most would be interested. He is interested in relative performance and if the systems are worth using here out or to keep the Intels.

That being said, when I do have free time at home there will be plenty of benchmarks to go around from me on air and water with max OCs. But as stated this is time constrained as I am traveling back and forth 1500 miles from home to design/build one of T-Mobiles new toys.

For those saying AMD hasn't lost anything, think again. They lost all their credibility and the sugar coated reviews you see about the FX is AMD's way of controlling the situation.
Ikr? I'd rather have them say "we screwed up, Bulldozer is not ready. Here are ourpathetic benchmarks. Give us more time to refine the architecture." of course that would pretty much be corporate suicide wouldnt it? mmmm sad sad world.

Before the official BD results a few were quite vocal about BD and how it will send INTEL back to the Netburst days. If you remember, some of us, including myself told you guys that AMD's way of handling this does not go hand in hand with a "Conroe" type movement. We were ignored, labelled fanboys, and the show kept going. All of a sudden, many make posts and act as being the victims in this whole story. Wake up guys, take a step back and admit you got caught in the hype. It is normal as brand loyalty tends to do this. What is not normal is to go on and promote an attitude which is debunked by review sites. At this point in time, BD is too expensive for what it can do. Nobody can deny this.

Many of the BD supporters like to change the story by adding things. For example : 'apps suck, windows 7 sucks, wait for the BIOS, wait for the patch, wait for the fix, wait for the hotfix'. While that may be true, why hasn't AMD done this before launching the chip? Surely AMD is not some corner shop chip maker with no voice when talking to Microsoft about the problems they encountered when they tested their chips.

This is what annoys the crap out of me. They came out, yet again, unprepared (AMD Graphics card situations anyone? When games ran better on NVIDIA) and their fans find excuses for them. How does that work?

Then you have a few blogs with very pro BD comments, which were probably made by AMD employers, and every AMD fan here on OCN makes sure to capitalize on that. You see with capital and bold letters all the positive points some guy made and people carry them in every BD thread.

To summarize : BD is too expensive for what it can do. It is not a chip you buy and hope it will be fixed as the CPU market does not work this way. A smart person will not upgrade to BD if they have an X4 or X6, I7 92X or SB.

Not meant to be an AMD fanboy or anything, but I would like to see tests when every thing settles (BIOS fix, patches, windows 7 patches, hotfixes and etc..).
I think AMD didn't think this one through. Or they just released Bulldozer quickly and have been working on Bulldozer II which will be faster and better and etc... I think the Bulldozer I was to catch everyone's attention. I think they wanted something better but couldn't manage it on time for the promised release. Now they are "plotting" a way to improve the Bulldozer.
I think that the FX 8170P will be modified a bit and that will be the real ***** for people.
The only negative thing is the TDP. You need a power reactor to keep up with the wattage, and I don't even want to see the bills for electricity.

I would say that I am an AMD fan boy, my first AMD was a T-bed 1.8Ghz a full 512kb L2

Over the years I owned XP 2800+, XP 3200+, 64 Brisbane (65nm) X2 5200+, and most recently a phenom X4 9950, I also have P340 in my laptop

With every step it was a strong upgrade, so I was going to switch to the new processor mostly because of the 32nm transistors…after I saw review after review that an “8” core fakedozer was slower the a Phenom II X4 in some application I got pissed and instead bought the current process a X4 980 BE that runs @4.2Ghz like a champ…and will do benches @4.5Ghz but not reliable 100% of the time.
