Geforce 480 vram usage.

Thread Starter
I am planning on 2 480s in sli. I would like to max out BF3 at 60fps and metro 2033.

According to guru3d metro 2033 with 2 480s does on average 53 fps.

I was told 2 480s will max out bf3 at around 60fps.

I plan on overlocking the cards also.

My other worry is VRAM. Is 1.5 enough for these 2 games? i do not want to suffer lag spikes.

I was in the same boat dude. Then I realised that concerns often become obscenely inflated when they come through the grapevine, and as a general rule, remember that 1.5GB VRAM is enough for 99.9% of single-monitor gaming requirements. Actually, as of date current, it's enough for no less than 100% of them, provided you stay below 2560 x 1600 on a single monitor.

Even if the final build of BF3 goes over 1.5GB VRAM, it wouldn't be by much. It'll access a bit of your DDR3 system RAM, framerate might stutter for a second, but you may not even notice. If you can't bare 1.5 seconds of stutter for every hour of gameplay or two, turn down some detail settings. And that's basically the worst-case scenario. It's just such a non-issue I feel silly for getting wrapped up in it myself.

1.5GBers are gonna stay in my rig until Kepler drops.

tl/dr: If anything causes you to run it below 60FPS, it'll be because you're running 480s rather than 580s, not a VRAM limitation. But, 480 SLI should handle it without drama from what I've read.

Dont forget with an OC Also it should be even more performance.

I wouldn't waste your money on 480s. Yes they perform great but the heat they generate isn't worth it.

Well i can get 480s cheap. I dont want to get a 570 or 580 set up.

I can put custom coolers on the cards anyways.

Why is that?

By the time you buy the cards, and the custom coolers, you could swing x2 570's, or a nice 3GB 580.

But, if it's what you want, more power to you. But the Beta used roughly 1.6-1.7GB of vram, Metro uses about 2.2Gb so, I don't see the 1.5GB working out for you.

bf3 beta maxes the vram on my 480 so you might want to look into cards with more than 1.5gb
