I wanna play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Page 3

2 things to know about STALKER:SoC

1)The game is NOT "boom boom" action all the time CoD style. it is atmospheric. Think like an open world version of Metro 2033. You are in an irradiated part of Russia, where the land is bleak and the guns are crap. I like to think of it as a simulation of a "What -if" situation

2)To fix most of the issues with the game, install the STALKER complete mod. This mod pack was done WITHOUT an SDK, and it makes the game more tolerable. The vanilla game was obviously unfinished, so this make it a finished product.

All in All, remember that this is not Your CoD style FPS. if you played Metro 2033, it's like that but in an open world. Take your time, and enjoy your stay.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me.

ditto !
also, Fallout 3 and New Vegas are very much like the STALKER games but w/o the 'atmosphere' and 'feel'
def0 get that '2009' but MAKE SURE TO GET PATCH 1.0005 WW not 1.0006 for Shadow of Chernobyl.
also, the chronological order of the games according to the storyline( not the release dates) is...
Clear Sky
Shadow of Chernobyl
Call of Pripyat
if you're a stickler for that kind of thing...i am. lol and although they are 'stand-alone' games, each game sets up the storyline for the next game.
w/o the patch's ( no patch for CoP) they are buggier than a rotten tree stump. Rus games always are but they are like nothing else you will ever play. i almost envy you getting to experience them for the first time. it was HUGE fun for me.
sidenote: you can get all 3 from Steam dirt cheap and not have to worry about patch's etc. and STALKER 2 will be hitting at some point as well as dez0wave's mod 'The Lost Alpha'
http://dez0wave.tk/

now.. 'Don't just stand there, i said come in or get out of here Stalker, get out of here' lmao

Awesome storyline. Weapons and graphics are generic, though.

Definitely get the complete mods ASAP even on first playthrough. The smart-save function is golden. Get a scoped assault rifle as soon as possible.

DO NOT INSTALL COMPLETE.

I installed it on my first playthrough and regret it. It improves the HUD and Graphics which is nice, but it makes the game so much easier. What I would recommend are some visual mods like Atmosfear and Absolute Nature because it doesn't have the best HUD/visuals (aside from lighting which is spectacular) and the stock gameplay is reasonably harder. If you want a gameplay overhaul mod, I'd suggest lurk, and turn off all HUD options in the menu. It does a few thinks: improves the visuals, adds more weapons, reduces the HUD, changes guns to be more accurate but with more recoil, improves stealth, etc. Very fun. The only bad thing is that the first mission gets bugged sometimes.

Complete only makes it easier if you use the cheats. Otherwise, it really improves the feel of the game overall. The quicksave function is my favorite part.

I recommend playing in the order they were released (CS is the prequel and CoP is the standalone, btw), and to try it without any mods first. SoC was perfectly playable and very enjoyable with just the just the official patches, though the lower end weapons are disproportionately bad.

complete mod made it WAY easier without any cheats....it was probably because even the crap AK74-U you get at the beginning could mow people down like nothing. In the vanilla game it took more than one well placed shot to take dudes down.

STALKER is one of those games that are a kinda love hate thing. I overall enjoy the game though i never get very far before i end up loosing interest and eventually reloading my PC to have to start again XD.
I only have Shadows of Chernobyl though. and plan on picking up call of Pripyat, eventually.

If you don't mind a slow paced game for the start, its good, also the game is not a run-and-gun game you will get your ass handed to you if you try that.

Definitely try the oblivion lost and stalker soup mod for SoC , they make the first one the best in the series.IMO they should have made artifact stats the same as in the first one so you can never have stronger resistances for one element without sacrificing another in most instances though , then give me monolithic weapons that uses artifacts as power/upgrade sources for new weapons and include weapon/armor upgrades from the past 2 games together with the realism of the first(scarce med-kits and ammunition , weapon jamming , tough AI bots from the get-go , LABS) with a map 3x bigger than all 3 games combined then all i will play is that for a year..

I'll even paypal them an extra $200 to get it early gunner2.gifcool.gifgunner2.gif

Exactly. It makes it more gritty, and adds to how deadly the game already is. If you're finding it too easy, crank up the difficulty.
