1920x1200 IPS backlit OR 1920x1080 120HZ Backlit?

Hey again everyone. Still trying to pick a monitor xD

Basically my deal is this. I have an 8 year old 5:4 17" fuse monitor, and want to replace it with something with nice modern advances that will blow it out of the water.

1920x1200 IPS backlit 23" - 27"

OR

1920x1080 120HZ Backlit 23" - 27"

400 dollar budget.

Suggestions folks!

It depends. If your want a better gaming monitor, you'd be better off with a 120Hz panel. If you do a lot of image and video editing, you should go with an IPS panel.

For 400$, I fear you won't go beyond 23" for either type though.

With the 120hz i'd like to go Nvidia 3D vision in the future too. If it wasn't for the fact that Samsung S27A950D isn't Nvidia compliant I would have went the extra mile and picked it up. ;/

I could probably scoot it up to 5 or 6 bills ahah. I don't do any video or image editing. Just gaming, movies and internetz, and home recording.

I'm not too extreme of a gamer though. I just want a nice monitor for the sake of the fact I stare at it 2 - 6 hours a day typically xD

I heard the HP ZR24w are good 16:10 IPS panels but still decent enough for gaming.

Then if you are willing to spend more, wait a few more days for the ASUS VG278H. It's "3D Vision 2" compliant and comes with a pair of newer model glasses and integrated IR emitter. 27", LED Backlit.

IPS is pretty nice to stare at. I figure that with a 60Hz monitor I can make my gfx card investment last longer than with a 120Hz monitor since I'll be pushing more than 60 frames for a while

ETA: In B4 De-Zant. Sometimes, on quiet nights, you can hear his CRTs faintly humming in the vents.

Whats the integrated IR emitter all about? and yeah I was considering that Asus, also considering just getting the VG238H and saving a few bucks.

3d Vision requires an IR emitter that synchronizes the 3d glasses to the display. An integrated emitter means you don't need a separate usb IR emitter. Also, do you mean the VG236H? That's a good monitor. The other nice thing is there's a VG236HE model that's the exact monitor but doesn't come with 3d glasses. That allows you to save some money now and invest in the 3d glasses later if you really want them. However, the VG236H is a glossy monitor. If there is a lot of natural light in the room, this can be really annoying. I actually returned one of these monitors because of the glossiness. Otherwise, it's a very decent monitor.

Thanks lockdown. I looked it up after I asked. Should have done that first lol. And yes I meant the VG236H. I don't know if that gloss would be an issue with, but it probably would so i'd rather not chance it. What did you go with for an alternative to the glossiness of the VG236H might I ask?
