You mean i7 dual core? Keep in mind, hardware by itself doesn't dictate performance. Apple's OSX is a wonderful operating system and much better than Windows 7 for a lot of things (I use Windows 7 and friend has OSX). Thus, in the end the performance is pretty similar so you're paying for quality there, too. Of course, their laptops are the best in the world, appearance wise, and the name is prestigious. So, you're paying for more than just the hardware.

That makes no sense.

It's like saying you want a Ferrari and you want it for "cheap."

We can scrape together around $2000 I suppose, I just didn't feel like going that high considering what I know about Apple. However, he wants one, so we'll do our best. If it means overtime work for the three of us, so be it. He deserves it

I think there is a deal for everyone entering college where they get an iPod touch for free when they buy a Macbook Pro...or was that last year's? Wait I think this year's was a $100 iTunes gift card. That's something you may want to consider.

Definitely run great.

I was running Linux on a "Less Powerful" desktop than my sig rig. Ran just fine because the OS didn't require the same components as my Sig rig to run at it's full potential.

My 13" 2011 MBP runs smooth as hell with Lion. I haven't had an issue yet.

Also runs a VM of Windows 7 and 8 with no issues at all.

I used to be a Mac hater, but things changed. I love taking this thing with me on business trips.

BUT, make sure he definitely wants a Mac and has experience with it.

A good example is my wife. For her, using a Mac is like learning a whole new language...after the entire world was wiped out and restarted by an asteroid. She now has a 12.1" Lenovo Tablet PC that cost the low low price of...$2,190. It has the same processor as me, but less ram and HDD space.

I've got math homework to do so I won't be on for a little while.

He wants 15+ inches (17 preferably). I can probably convince him 13" is fine.
I want to spend $1000-1400. We can probably go up to $1800-2000.
If at all possible, it should be able to play a little WoW.
I'd love to have the latest Apple OS X installed on it.
If there are discounts besides those already posted, please share!

I'll be back later and will hand out reps+ to those who constructively help this thread.

Thanks! iPoop.

There's no magical workaround to be honest... Either a recertified one on newegg that's the old gen (still able to run OSX Lion perfectly) or go on the apple website and click on the 15" mac book pro. I'd forget game too since the only option is the intel graphics.

Use one and check for yourself. Stop by an Apple store.

Yes, I am not a fan of the Apple stores or the Genius bar either. But you can try one for free.

Sometimes it can be worth it. I could have bought a Vizio Flat Screen for Cheaper than my Sony Bravia. Same size screen and nearly the same performance. Still opted for the Sony. User preference.

Actually, I could have purchased a 65" Vizio for the price of my 55" Sony.
