evga 790i ftw

Thread Starter
hey guys gotta quick question. im still a die hard fan of the 775 socket and so i do not want to upgrade processors and everything else. the reason i ask is because im getting a 790i for dirt cheap which means i need ddr3 ram now.

okay so the question is, for my q8300 oc'd to 3.28ghz, which ddr3 ram would be best? thanks guys.

RAM for the 790i boards is painfully finicky. I had two unsupported sets of 2x2GB (my current sets, actually) and the G.Skills would *only* work in the black slots, and wouldn't post in the grey slots. It was really weird. I'd say to try and buy supported sets, but EPP RAM is pretty impossible to find these days.

Most sets should work, I'd imagine, but avoid 4GB DIMMs. There are only a handful that work with the 790i.

The 790i had weird issues with RAM. Definitley not 4gb or 8gb DIMMS, and try your darndest to find guarenteed supported RAM. ie, look in the manual for supported ramz.

Check here and scroll to around 3/4 of the way down. You should find 790i official RAM support.
