Need new set up - awful WD warranty service

I currently have 2 WD Velociraptors (150GB x2) in RAID 0. This is because I had my old Raptor die after 4 years and they upgraded me to a Velociraptor. However, the first replacement died after 2 months (clicking from about week 1) so they replaced it again. The second had further clicking. They sent me another one. Guess what? Clicking. I have had no such sounds from my original Velociraptor that I have had since 2009. Corporate has pretty much dismissed me as it being my computer or power supply (which makes absolutely no sense) and says they won't do anything for me (except continuing to send me drives, I doubt I can convince them to give me free shipping anymore).

So at this point I have no idea what to do about my RAID 0 array which will likely fail me again in a short amount of time. I would just simply downgrade to a 150GB drive (so just one Velociraptor), but my system image is now of the entire array and cannot be down sized (that I am aware of).

So I ask you, is there any alternatives to this RAID 0 array that will yield similar performance, be large enough for the image, and hopefully be relatively cheap (sub $200)?

Or alternatively, is there a way I can reduce the size of the image so that I can put it on one disk? (Would reducing the size of my disk and files to <150GB and then reducing partition size until small enough to reimage?)

You got me thinking here...

The EVGA MoBo supports RAID 10, so why not 4x $50 HDD's?

That seems way to complex and the performance would definitely be less than that of RAID 0 of two of those drives not to mention less than RAID 0 with raptors.

Obviously, if using HDD's, the only way you're going to match RAID 0 with Raptors is...to do another RAID 0 (or RAID 10) with Raptors.

SSD's would offer superior performance, but cost more.
RAID 10 with Caviar Black's will offer great performance and data protection.

This doesn't seem terribly difficult to figure out.

grab two F3 1TB's and RAID those....you get 2TB of space and quite similar performance.

anything with similar performance but smaller? I like to keep image backups and only have a 1TB storage...

I've had top notch service from WD. Bad 500GB blue drive and they send me back a 1TB caviar black. Works fine.

Maybe it's just bad luck or they sent you back the same drive the 2nd time.

That mirrors my experiences. WD is great.

the damn drives are less than $70 usually.....I mean there is no reason not to get them!

and the velociraptors are not all that much better compared to some newer drives from other companies.

ALSO, just make the RAID, then put OS partition on only 1TB of the RAID....problem solved.

Actually I am on the third drive with clicking issues.... 1st one died within 2 months, I got a second and it was clicking like the first; they sent another, same issue on day one.

That doesn't really solve the problem, still has higher chance of failure. I would prefer say 2 500GB drives or something.
