over the AMD set up. An i5 would definitely be worth it also if you could find it in your budget.
MIR are not reliable, so do not include them in any "savings."
He shouldnt be spending more than $160-$170 on a mobo and processor. he should be spending more on his GPU, an PII x2 or Athlon x 2 are great for budget gaming builds. I Agree that the i3-2100 is superior to both processors and even is superior to most of the AMD x4's but if he is looking for better gaming performance, he should spend more on the GPU.
Also, you listed an MSI mobo, which is a brand many people on OCN do not suggest. Maybe people have had problems with MSI mobos "catching fire." Gigabyte, Asus, or ASRock are much better and reliable choices for a mobo.

I would scan through these DIY combo's then add the other parts you need. Not huge savings but you'll find something that catches your eye. Then you can go to Ncix and find same parts on sell elsewhere and price match a little...if other place doesn't ship.
