I normally would agree with you but then you will be taking away $$ that could be spent on a better GPU. The budget is already kinda low.

All I can suggest is a cheap AMD quad setup. They don't need the latest parts with that budget. A GTX 460 used is only about ~$100.

build I just threw together, it's over budget by 60 bucks but everythings in there except operating system..quad core, 4gb ram, 19" LCD, AMD 6850.. decent features and room for upgrades if needed, decent imo. Things can be switched out to make it cheaper I would imagine, but its a rough quick put together wishlist either way. You could get a lower end GPU and go with a dual core and probably be at around 650, but yeah there ya go

Unless you want to take time to cherry pick parts, this is a more realistic price range.
Why oh why would you choose that hard drive? The caviar blue 500gb model is cheaper....

A $70 PSU for such a tight budget? A CX430 would do just fine. Its like 20 bucks after rebate and is quality built.

I'd prolly take this and this over the AMD set up. An i5 would definitely be worth it also if you could find it in your budget.

I would scan through these DIY combo's then add the other parts you need. Not huge savings but you'll find something that catches your eye. Then you can go to Ncix and find same parts on sell elsewhere and price match a little...if other place doesn't ship.

MIR are not reliable, so do not include them in any "savings."

He shouldnt be spending more than $160-$170 on a mobo and processor. he should be spending more on his GPU, an PII x2 or Athlon x 2 are great for budget gaming builds. I Agree that the i3-2100 is superior to both processors and even is superior to most of the AMD x4's but if he is looking for better gaming performance, he should spend more on the GPU.

Also, you listed an MSI mobo, which is a brand many people on OCN do not suggest. Maybe people have had problems with MSI mobos "catching fire." Gigabyte, Asus, or ASRock are much better and reliable choices for a mobo.

Like I said, bought a gtx 460 second hand. It has 2.5 years of warranty left and costs 70 less than buying new. who would have thought

look, a gtx 460 top from asus for 100 shipped. has full warranty support http://www.overclock.net/video/11448...0-shipped.html

it's not that hard to find deals on midrange cards w/ warranty, as I've said like 6 times now

Stay away from these... The "savings" always include you overspending on something
