I had the Verizon iPhone 4 awhile back and it was okay, when I got rid of it I missed it but I also missed Google Navigation.
I have the 4S currently as I'm waiting on the new Qualcomm chips to hit Verizon as well as LTE coverage to get here, so I might as well just get a 3G phone that has awesome resell vaule. Coming from a OG Droid and a Galaxy S Fascinate both rooted and running the Stable Cyanogenmods, I really like the iPhone. Everything is silky smooth and incredibly stable. I do see on this forum and many others that the iPhone is hated on fiercely though.

No actual encryption (because CDMA uses a digital signal with a sort of "frequency hopping" scheme, they say its "built in security". Its not. :-\\

GSM advantages

Good encryption (current standard in america is A5/1 and A5/3)
Actually Data/Voice at the same time is possible but needs a specific radio chipset with dual antennae. However it must be a 1x Voice Call with a EVDO Rev A. It is not a limitation of the technology but a way to cut cost and improve battery life.

As for encryption, you are right CDMA does not have a built in method since it has been shown that the frequency hopping makes it extremely hard and impossible AFAIK to really be worth trying to eavesdrop. It'd be easier to use the phone as an attack vector which would be just the same ss GSM.

As for GSM, "strong" encryption it has been shown many times that a GSM call can be eavesdropped, in fact I recall a few months back a fellow doing it worth 50 dollars worth of equipment.

As for the iphone on VZW/Sprint no it cannot while in the US since it is locked to the CDMA radio.

Because it's so hard to tell the person "I'll call you right back", look up the data you need, write it down and call them back.

Or if you want to just surf while talking to someone cuz you're bored...

HANG UP THE PHONE.
