Corsair K60 as my first gaming keyboard?

Hey guys, I'm building a new pc and I'm looking at a good mechanical keyboard to play BF3 and Skyrim with. I'd like to get the K90 because it is backlit, but I have no use for the macro keys and I am already breaking my bank for this one(which I like very much)! Any of you guys have the K60 and can comment on the build quality, how it feels, ect? Thanks!

It isn't out yet, but I have been using one for FPS gaming for about a month now at home. It's a great keyboard, but if you've never had a mechanical keyboard before there will be some getting used to. It took one of my co-workers a week or so to get used to the keyswitch feel after he switched from his non-mechanical gaming keyboard.

if you don't care for macro keys, there is also the ducky shine that should be out soon.

should come in all flavors (blue, brown, red, black) and it has backlighting (you should pay attention more to your screen than your keys or you're going to die quickly).

it's also a full mechanical keyboard, not a hybrid like the corsair.

I forgot to mention that I'm going to finish building in December, by then it should be out right?

I never had a mechanical keyboard, for years I've gamed with a bleh hp typing keyboard. So anything is an upgrade, but I'll take a look at the Ducky Shine as well, what product name is it and when will it come out? I don't need backlit for gaming, I just need it if I'm typing something or if I want some lighting

yeah it should be out by December. well, it's already releasing in some areas.. but it should be here in the states (just taking a wild guess that you're from here) through tankguys.com soon.

and get a desk lamp, it'll be better for your eyes.

Ducky is the brand and Shine is the model I think.

I looked at a review on hardware zone, I don't understand why the keyboards like the Deck Legend and Ducky Shine have less features but are much much more expensive than other 'gaming' keyboards?

Is this one going to cost $170? If yes I'll just go with the corsair
post #8 of 16
Deck legend had it's outrageous prices because at the time it was the only backlit mechanical keyboard.. i think they still believe they live in those times.

and what features are you talking about? ducky shine has media keys, NKRO (not sure about the K60), "double shot" keys (still trying to figure that one out)

but yeah, 160 is a bit steep.

if you don't care for backlighting, try these out:

The build quality of the PCB among other things. Many of them are made waterproof so you can spill something on it and it won't "break" the keyboard. You can pop the key off, dry it out, and put the key back in.

It's really called "Ducky Shine". Check out this thread for more info:

http://www.overclock.net/keyboards/1...hine-info.html

K60 isn't out so you won't really hear anything about it except for the hardware reps and maybe a lucky few who have had some hands-on. Same with the Ducky Shine, however, but Ducky has other boards out so you can assume the quality will be on par with the rest of their line.

If you don't care about macros, and just want the backlighting, there aren't too many boards out there for you.

Mionix has one (see amazon)

Xarmor/iOne has one (also amazon)

Ducky Shine soonish (estimated end of this month - christmas sometime)

Corsair's K60 should be 'soon' as well.

Deck Keyboards would be the best quality of the aforementioned, but no media keys.

It's all about quality and most of the backlit manufacturers aren't top tier. If you just need a run of the mill and just want to pick up a budget board, any of the above will do, but the Deck is your best bet for quality.
