I never assume, because I read the lawsuit and what's it's about and it's definitely not about Samsung using a rectangular shape as a tablet. eek.gif

Reading is very cool cool.gif Reading is good for the brain, so please, take your time and do some research and whatever you do, READ.

Phones, tablets, tvs, computers and any sort of screen in general has always been square or rectangular... Having a patent saying they're copying you by using a rectangular device is completed absurd.

The lawsuit isn't about a rectangle. No one reads these days. rolleyes.gif

There's a really cool website called "Google" and you can punch in "Apple vs Samsung" and read about the contents of the lawsuit. thumb.gif Please, take you're time, end of the world isn't here for another year wink.gif

Radical Patents by apple (I can name off my head):
Patents on rectangular tablets
Circular buttons on MP3 players and tablets
White MP3 players
A Circular control pad on an MP3 player.
LED fans and illuminated cases
Touchscreen phones
rectangular phones
anything starting with an "i"
Anything with remotely similar looking UI to Macs

And many more that i would have to look up. They were given over 500 patents in 2010 alone. Does this not seem a little strange to you or anyone else?

News just in, which really isn't news if anyone bothered to read instead of Rage Against the Apple. The lawsuit is not about a rectangular shaped tablet.

If it was about the shape then Apple would sue every tablet maker.

You guys can continue with your irrational and unconstructive replies now, as you were.

The shape/form factor doesn't really matter that much since apple is suing, in addition to design patent infringements, on infringement of various utility patents (which don't generally have anything to do with design/form-factor implementation)--IMHO, that's where Samsung is really in trouble. I'd be willing to bet that any of Apple's supposed design patents could be invalidated in numerous ways. The utility patents on the other hand...not so sure.

Personally, I think the fact that the designs might have similar or even identical aspect ratios, scaled dimensions, etc. is a moot point, and I don't think any "general" design patents that encompass possible form-factors should ever be granted. There are only so many designs one can consider for personal-use devices--it gets back to what is realistic to use, and hence a "general" or generic form-factor/design patent should never be granted. Ergo, the patent system is, as was already known, broken and in need of repair.

The problem with the "utility" patents is that they consist of "a way to do X using Y motion." The UI should not matter, the code/technology is what should matter.

It's funny because the RAM and HDD in my Mac is made by Samsung biggrin.gif

I must admit this is pretty stupid though.

Samsung has been consistently shot down in the courtroom in every case where there's been ruling. You guys can hate on Apple all you want but it doesn't change the fact that Samsung is obviously doing something wrong. All these judges from all these different countries, be it USA, Australia, Germany, etc can't be wrong and you guys all be right.

I'll give a kind kudos to the first Apple hater than can objectively admit Samsung screwed the pooch.

I also chuckled when you spoke of how apples products are unaffordable. How? I've had no problem purchasing apples products. Own quite several. Still have 2 iPhone 4. 2 iPhone 4S, iPod nano touch, 32gb iPod touch and gonna be buying the iPad 2 soon and an apple tv 2 for my home theater setup for my kids tv.

All about money management. So you can complain all you want but it's ridiculous to complain just because people out there do not know how to save money.

As for it's patent trolling and supposed unethical tactics. They're a business and have definitely changed the world and how every company designs their phones and tablets. I'll defend apple but some things I will not.

So for me. I refuse to be classified and insulted as an isheep person. I love their products and I'll buy quality products. But when it comes to how they are in the courts. I could care less cuz it does not concern me, the general consumer. Am I against their stupidness, of course.

You should at least give a hoot what they do in courts, because it's just quashing the interests of other people.

No, I don't want an iPad or an iPhone.
It doesn't have flash player.
That's a big fail.

I want the Galaxy S2 and a Galaxy Tab. Both of which are more powerful and more fun to use than an iPhone.

Not to mention, Fruit Ninja is free on Android.

And on the Android market, there is freedom. Perestroika.
Every single thing gets moderated in the Apple Store.

And guess what, for broke-ass students like me? I can afford the abovementioned devices.

The S2 is a powerful phone that comes at $150 with a 2-year contract.
The single-core, non-'S' iPhone 4 costs $120 with the same contact.

Simple logic will tell you to take the S2, root it, flash it, and you get an overall snappier phone. With more customization options than an iPhone can ever have.

Better still, it's available in White. At the same price too.

I know you like your Apple products and me my Samsung ones. But at least care about how others feel. Just because you like something doesn't mean that you have to defend it to death and tell everyone they're wrong because they're not buying a product you like.

And the courts banning Samsung sales is just stifling competition.
The people who want the Samsung products won't be able to get them easily any longer. They'd have to import that stuff.

Which is cumbersome. Of course we'd whine.

Imagine your beloved iProducts gets banned in a certain country, and you living there will have to buy overseas and risk having it damaged or lost on the way.
Would you like that?
