I really hated jumpingp. I've used AMD in every build that I've done. But like I said, I couldn't justify the power usage, not when my electricity bill is already atrocious. I've only had my 2600k setup for a couple days, but the thing idles at 10w and down locks itself to 1.5GHz or something along those lines and the 2600k can run sOne of the games down locked. Vantage ran all of the gpu test with the CPU down clocked.

I bought an 8120, so if anybody is hoping for magic pixie dust that can improve single threaded performance, it is me. While I will be the first to defend the argument that modern programming is going n-threaded at an ever increasing pace, and core-count should be looked at as a very important aspect of today's forward-looking CPUs, there is still no scenario in which increasing IPC/per-core performance is going to do anything but help!

I'm happy with my new CPU overall, but the fact that we're having to overclock the snot out of them, to be competitive is not acceptable. The power consumption is bad enough to begin with, and even at 4.5ghz the per-core performance is still around 10+ % slower than my 1100t at 4.2ghz and only just caught up to the Thubane's stock 3.3ghz!! Thankfully the extra cores make up the difference in my workloads, placing it well ahead for my needs, but I'm just one guy, in a very tiny niche of people who will be able to see any value whatsoever in this chip.

I simply do not see any way they can improve single threaded performance enough to make this chip attractive to the masses, nor competitive to Intel, other than discovering some serious bug in their microcode or something dramatic that can be fixed in Windows........it just seems like wishful thinking at best.

Hmm well I've seen some benches, where one module was disabled on each core, so it was left at one module per core. And from there it close to the 2500k, I believe, so that can be another alternative, and since you have less "cores" to deal with, you should be able to reach a higher OC at a lower voltage, potentially giving the 2500k a fighting chance?

Better then nothing, my 2 cents

I honestly don't care who makes my CPU. I'm going to get the best bang for the buck of any part. I jump back and forth from amd and nvidia, and if (like you said, doubtful) AMD makes a come back, I would jump ships.

I, like many other members of OCN, like to change things up all the time.

agreed hope your trials with the chip go well.

Passmark is pointless for benching performance.

So what's the dealo? Fake tests, hope for BD, or incorrectly done testing?

I don't have time to read through all 9 pages right now

Pretty much incorrect testing,Passmark cannot tell if a CPU is OC'd when the multiplier is raised past a certain point.

Well most of AMD guys think it's hope, Intel thinks they're fake/incorrect testing. :/

IMO it's hope, I'm seriously considering selling my i5 rig
