You might just want to glance through this before messing around too much: http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/318726.pdf

Edit- Ok, I'll guide you in the right direction - take a look specifically at pages 19-20:

"Table 2- 2 specifies absolute maximum and minimum ratings only and lie outside the functional limits of the processor. Within functional operation limits, functionality and long-term reliability can be expected.

At conditions outside functional operation condition limits, but within absolute maximum and minimum ratings, neither functionality nor long-term reliability can be expected. If a device is returned to conditions within functional operation limits after having been subjected to conditions outside these limits, but within the absolute maximum and minimum ratings, the device may be functional, but with its lifetime degraded depending on exposure to conditions exceeding the functional operation condition limits.

At conditions exceeding absolute maximum and minimum ratings, neither functionality nor long-term reliability can be expected. Moreover, if a device is subjected to these conditions for any length of time then, when returned to conditions within the functional operating condition limits, it will either not function, or its reliability will be severely degraded."

Notice that the maximum VID within functional operation limits is 1.3625v

Thank you jlells01,
I checked the voltage limits and I'm sure I never went past them, same for the temperatures. I can't find the limit for NB Voltage though.

I tried a few things.
Uninstalled ATI drivers, used driver sweeper, reinstalled ATI drivers, runned Furmark "BURN-IN test" for an hour and half without artifacts or high temperatures. This should exclude hardware problems on the GPU side.
Increased the voltage CPU V @ 1.375 and NB V @ 1.55 no joy either, I get BSODed just while windows where loading CCC.exe at the startup.
Strange thing is that before I reinstalled ATI drivers I disabled CCC to autostart on boot. Now with the new installation CCC autoloaded itself and the crash came.
I don't know if this is just a case (bsod seemed to me to happen randomly), is this maybe not related to bios settings but to driver incompatibility?
To check it out I'm now running overclocked in safe mode (only network)...I'll play some diablo II and browse, see if anything happens.
Any clues with this new updates?

Try this to clean up ATI driver;

Atiman Uninstaller v.6.0.0.msi. Download LINK
(Run it with administrator privilege. Some antivirus software will give a false positive. Let it restarts to complete the uninstallation).

Install Catalyst 11.9. No preview driver during troubleshooting.

Set the UAC to minimum if you are installing preview drivers.

Thank you Ken,
I'll try for sure your cleaner tool! Can you better explain what you mean by "No preview driver during troubleshooting."?
Plus my UAC is unactive so it's ok.

Preview drivers are not certified by Microsoft and not supported by UAC. In combinations of certain things in a user system might conflicting with Windows, hence crash. So, to narrow down the possible cause is best to avoid this, else will be so confusing of what is what and which is which. It will take you days to figure it out the real culprit lol.

Just uncheck it. I never turned it on as the installed security software is good enough for me.

Well Ken, maybe I'm a complete moron but I can't see a voice called "preview driver" -_-'''
My catalyst costumize install menu lists as components:
AMD catalyst install manager
AMD APP sdk runtime
AMD display driver
HDMI/DP audio driver
Microsoft Visual C++
AMD drag and drop transcoding
AMD media foundation decoder
Catalyst control center
BTW I made a clean Win7 install, just in case...

Sorry, the preview drivers are Catalyst 11.10 preview & 11.xx. preview.

Install this Catalyst 11.9 WHQL http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...n_win7-64.aspx

Select "express install" instead of "customized".

Ignore any error messages and let the setup to complete. Let me know what is the error message, if any.
