I was able to make it to GeForce LAN 6! It was overall a great experience, by far the funnest LAN experience that I've been a part of.
Here's my notes:
It was mainly hosted by Tom Petersen of NVIDIA and we also got to see NVIDIA GM Drew Henry on the microphone quite a bit.
It got very hot inside the ship, despite it being fully open the entire time. I was hoping for more free drinks since it was so hot/humid but it's not too huge of a deal.
We got to play some brand new exclusive Battlefield 3 maps that have never been played by the public before, in both 3D and regular. I really liked the smaller non-vehicle construction zone map a lot since I was afraid that this game was going to entirely focus on large 64-player gameplay. Overall, BF3 was awesome.
They announced 3D Vision 2 on the first day. Funny enough, my friend and I were laughing and calling it an overpriced gimmick and then moments later our entire row won brand new Asus VG278H 27" LED 120Hz monitors and 3D Vision 2 kits. They're going to mail them to each of us. Their only word on delivery was "Allow 30 days" but I assume that this is because these products just launched and you can't even get them online yet.
The food was gross and I only really enjoyed the last meal of pasta bowls. Oh well, free is free.
I didn't sleep on the ship but I have some friends that did. They didn't seem to mind it but I guess they got some kind of crazy military-style awakening in the morning. Instead, three of my buddies and I got a hotel room.
I got to watch K|ngP|n overclock on one of his SR2 boards. Nuff said.
I also got to see X79 running with the fancy Intel Sandy Bridge-E liquid cooler. This caught me by surprise. The EVGA guys weren't sure of the SB-E model that was running but they did confirm that it was indeed SB-E. I didn't see any benchmarking or anything like that.
They gave out a $10,000 custom rig with two Mars II cards paired with a 2600K in a custom case. Man the guy who got that is lucky.
One of the DICE guys were there to talk about Battlefield 3 and the history of Battlefield. Wasn't too informative but it was cool to see. Though, he does discuss the new maps.
We were on a boat.
I'm super tired right now and I can't think very well but I may add more tomorrow after I get some sleep. Hope this is at least slightly informative.
UPDATE: They gave us a Battlefield 3 discount card with a free t-shirt code on the back and a "$20 off any Origin game" on the front. Unfortunately, the discount didn't work with Battlefield 3 but I used it on Crysis 2 to get the game for $20. Also, the t-shirt code even covered express shipping which made the order total to $59 for free! Awesome!
I got free copies of Dungeon Siege 3 and Alice: Madness Returns too.
