What does this mean? "One DIMM per channel only" - Page 4

You could probably use the ram at past DDR3-1600 without any problems at all, at the right settings.

The reason LGA-1366 doesn't officially support fast DDR3 is because fast JEDEC DDR3 didn't exist when LGA-1366 was undergoing certification testing back in 2008.

Ok that makes sense. It's just getting to "the right settings" that's the hard part.. smile.gif

Just got back home and this is the memtest that has been running for 18.5 hours:

And this is a screenshot from SPD:

And this is from HW Mon:

Do I need to do anything?

Those settings are likely stable as is, largely because the memory is overvolted quite a bit. You could probably reduce voltage on the RAM (which may be a good idea as six DIMMs packed right next to each other can get quite warm, even at only DDR3-1600).

Also, overall performance can be increased by upping uncore at the same time.

Try manually entering all the timings you see on the XMP profile 1 list, but increase tRAS to 27, tRC to 42, tRFC to 150, tRRD to 7, and tRTP to 7.

If you can find a set of "round trip latency" or RTL timings fro the memory (should be one for each channel), set these to a delay of 1.

For voltages, manually set DRAM voltage to 1.5v, QPI/VTT (called QPI/DRAM core voltage in your BIOS) to 1.275v, and increase the uncore multiplier to give 3GHz. You can likely also reduce CPU PLL quite a bit. I'm running 1.3v without issues, but 1.5-1.6v is a good place to start.

You may have to tweak these settings slightly if you overclock the CPU, which is still at stock, but most of them should be good all the way to around 4-4.2GHz if you keep memory speed at ~1600, and uncore at ~3GHz. The only thing you'll likely need to increase is vcore.

Wow. Thanks a lot!

I'll try tweaking the RAM a bit and see if it gets stable with even higher uncore and lower voltages.

The primary reason to why I am running at stock is because when my computer is idling ( when I am sleeping, I never turn it off. ) I don't want the CPU alone to drain 140w, it's much more economic for it to use up 30w. Is there a way to do that even if I decide to OC it again?

Thanks again!

Even OCed with a fixed core clock and no power saving features, the CPU won't be pulling anywhere near 140w idle. 40-50w is more likely.

You can leave EIST and the various C states enabled even when OCing, though it may take a bit more tweaking.

Okay, because when I disable EIST/C state and those others, HWMON tells me that the CPU power consumption is 140w.

I'll give it a try and get back when I have some new information, I've got some settings that I've used before for my 4GHz OC and it was stable, I might try them again but leave the EIST and C state on.

The Rampage III Extreme Black Edition has A LOT of options for OC:ing though.. heh.

This is VERY weird Blameless, I ran the windows memtest that you told me, got ~120% coverage and then I experienced some problems so I ran it again, and before it reached 2% coverage on one of the instances, I had 2000 errors....

So I tired setting everything manually in BIOS, here are my settings at the moment, the BCKL and VCore is what I've had and tested before, so it "should" work, I hope my RAM hasn't gone bad because it was running at 1.65v.

And I hope you've got some nice advice again

Here goes, the pictures are quite large and my camera sucked this morning, hope it can suffice.

Thread Starter
So I removed all DIMMs and ran each of them separately in the windows memtest. And I found one dimm that was corrupt, gave me thousands of errors, so I removed that kit and now I am running 4 * 4 gb and have run to 140% coverage.

So I guess that kit was bad? Dunno why it worked from the beginning.

Now everything is running at stock settings too, gonna go back to the OC from the other pictures. You guys thing that will work?
