[SP]AMD Is Already Cutting 8-Core FX-8150 Bulldozer CPU Price - Page 5

you know if i the 8150 drops more, say around 175 ill pick one up. This might be better for something like a server rather then a gaming PC. My current build is more then powerful enough for me for gaming, so im not really looking to upgrade accept for a new graphics card.

I was expecting this...but so soon? I mean FX8150's are still selling out at their current price.

Though from the reported performance I think it might be a larger contender at this price point. Though what about the FX8120? In my book the 8120 and the 8150 are the same CPU since they will probably both OC to the same speed, but I know the rest of the world may not see it that way. I think the 8120 needs a price drop more than the 8150 does...you can still find that one for sale. I don't think there are 8150's anywhere right now. At least not in the US.

Big difference here.

AMD said it was releasing the 8150 for $250

http://www.overclock.net/hardware-ne...-price-bd.html

retailers have just been charging more because of supply & demand. now that they see demand has gone down they aren't price gouging anymore.

has nothing to do w/ AMD.

it's even more at newegg right now. $35 more than they announced.
+1

This is an example of why I usually frown upon Softpedia as a news source. Where is the proof that AMD is cutting prices?

This needed to be done, why buy a BD for more when a 2500K is faster, cooler and uses less energy?

BD Price will hit rock bottom when Ivy Bridge comes out. Intel CPUs are becoming more energy efficient - not less... I'm trying to figure out how a California Company (AMD) has missed the whole "Green" Energy Efficient concept. Maybe AMD is responsible for the brown outs.

The E8400 and the Q6600 are the perfect example.

The quad came in UNDER the dual core...Clock for clock it was slower and if you google it, 3/4 of you hailed the quad as an AMAZING CORE but, not good for gaming.

Now we have the SAME EXACT situation, an Octo compared to a Hexi/Quad and it's not as fast but, you all view it as a failure because it failed clock for clock in comparison to the Intel core that you all hailed as a titan.

I don't understand the issue here.

8 cores is an advance in tech...Regardless of it's clock for clock performance it should be held to the same exact standards you all held Intel to several years ago.

Is it a core for core advancement? No...Is it an OVERALL breakthrough? Yes.

See it for what it is...Not what you wanted it to be...
You know, you keep making this post so I decided to google some reviews from 2008 to see what was going on. First of all, none of these posters are the same. People talking back then are different then people talking now. I LOOKED. The internet isn't one big person that always has the same expectations. Stop saying "you all" like everyone else is the same person.

Second, this situation is not the same at all. The Q6600 wasn't as good as the E8400 in gaming, but it was actually better in multi-threaded benchmarks. It was consistently better. The number I saw was 23 benchmarks out of 40 went to the E8400, but the margin was pretty close when everyone was OC'ed a bit. Compare this to bulldozer, where a majority of the benchmarks fail to beat the X6 and for anyone interested in just gaming, the X4. And it is $100 more than the X6. And it uses a poopload of power.

The Q6600 made two steps forward and one step backwards.

The 8150 made a half step forward, stole your gold watch, then stripped naked and ran screaming and laughing in the opposite direction.

Now honestly, this whole comparison confuses me even more, because the Q6600 CAME OUT A YEAR BEFORE THE E8400. The reason people said the E8400 was better for gaming was because it was cheaper and ran games just fine (or better) because of its high OC headroom.

I think people should remember the launch schedule that AMD has.

They have 3 evolution stages for the BD architecture in 3 years.

Usually, when a company presents a new product, they don't talk about this. And AMD, made sure, people knew that next year a new BD optimization will be launched, and in 2013... and 2014.

So what i can get from this is ... Only by 2014 the BD architecture will be mature.
They will use this launch schedule to do the work they should have done for the the 8150.

"Ok, this sucks and we need more time to redo some major flaws... "

It's not good politics i know, but i really feel this is the way they will deal with it.

And between these major releases, they will have new steppings coming out... so it's a non stop evolution for this architecture.

The main problems to fix are the high leakage ( were the high power consumption & temps comes from ) & weak IPC.

If these aspects are solved, they will have a strong chip. Yes, Intel will be always a step ahead. But if AMD gets these problems solved, they will have a great chip.

there is no AMD is doing anything.

it's just some retailers, who happen to be selling it well ABOVE MSRP decided to lower it after the initial bleeding edge buyers who would pay a premium to be the first got done shopping.

The stores selling it are gouging less now is all.

It's still selling ABOVE MSRP.

You have hundreds of benchmarks saying the opposite right now. There's a good chance AMD can salvage the architecture a bit with some revisions and patches, but the point is that nobody knows if the architecture is good at this point or will do good in the coming years.

There were plenty of people saying the Pentium 4 architecture didn't suck, but alas, it did, and had to be replaced because of how bad it was.

Saying it doesn't suck, doesn't make it so, we're going to need to see some proof that it's a good architecture.

Licht's suggested prices :

FX-6100 : $150
FX-8120 : $200
FX-8150 : $250

Anything lower and AMD will suffer, but I'll just get happier.

lordikon... maybe you should say that this chip sucks ...
saying that the architecture as an all sucks... it's way over the edge unless you can really argument with proofs. And since this is a really new born architecture, it's a little too soon to say anything at all about the architecture.

Yes, this chip sucks big time.
But as Masked said ... sometimes a step back is needed to take 4 steps ahead.

Lets w8 and see... i think that everyone already knows what these first version of BD is in terms of performance.

As for the prices... i think they will lower the prices but it will always be more expensive than the 2500k.
