AMD DIDN'T CHANGE MSRP, AND PRICES ARE STILL HIGHER THAN MSRP

The E8400's had a significantly higher headroom and when released, the Quad Q6600 was still haralded as the giant when, in reality, there still weren't quad-threaded apps capable of utilizing the platform.

Now, we see the same //EXACT// situation. The 8 core can't be fully utilized because there are no apps that actually support it...That doesn't make it any less innovative then the first quads were.

Most of the hype was generated around the first 8 core processor, which it is...Only, it's not perfected...It's far from perfected.

I'm glad you actually researched it but, you failed to see the key aspects of my entire point which was, you couldn't fully utilize the Q6600 and core for core it was slower...The same is true for the 8150, you can't utilize all of it's potential and core for core it's slower...It also uses more power which, is mostly the same exact situation for the 6600 until the 8400 was OC'd which...You could hit about 3.4 on the Q6600's (was a tech when this release happened so am VERY familiar with it) and the E8400 was able to achieve 4.0-4.2 ghz. BD is actually able to achieve 5.2 (our sample) so quite frankly, I fail to see //at all// how it's a failure in comparison to previous launches.

P.S. OCN in GENERAL did clamor around the Q6600...I use OCN as an entity since, it's what it actually is...Not an individual.
It's not the exact same situation. First of all, Q6600 came out 10 months BEFORE the E8400, Bulldozer came out 9 months after the 2500k. We would have been perfectly okay with Bulldozer if it came out months before the 2500k.

We OCN in general were raving about the Q6600 because many of us were able to get those "good" samples where we got 2.4 -> 3.6 overclock. 3.6 Q6600 vs 4.0 E8400 wasn't that big of a difference even in single threaded applications. Whereas 5.2 bulldozer vs 4.8 sandybridge in single threaded app... the difference is still huge.

Most of the people here complaining are embarrassing themselves due to the fact that every now and then INTEL AND AMD alike release a bad CPU.

Are we here to talk about Here And Now, or Ancient History?

Though I don't think that is true. Even at the price gouged amount you can't find a FX8150 in stock...so I don't think this is actually going to happen. We might start seeing the FX8120 and FX6100 at the MSRP though. Since those can be found instock yet.

I think there will be offical MSRP reductions from AMD in a few weeks though. Right now people are still buying the CPUs in hopes that a patch or BIOS fix saves it (or had older systems and this was still an upgrade for them and for whatever reason didn't buy a 2500k). If that doesn't happen the demand for the new FX line is going to drop very fast.

So the 8150 has always been in that range. I don't think this is a decrease or reduction to be honest.
Yeah, even at $259 that is higher than AMD's MSRP(as pale neon indicates)... However, it is worth mentioning that Microcenter often sells CPUs as a loss leader. Which @ $259 seems to be on the lower end of the current markup trend($279.99 @ newegg). If AMD cuts the price on the 8150 to $200(or less) I would consider purchasing one.

Well... obviously yes. BD sucks. I sure hope piledriver fixes IPC or AMD could be out of the CPU business for a few more years. Giving Intel the absolute monopoly, which in turn would enable governments world wide to split Intel up.

Why not buy the 8120? Aren't they the same as the 8150 but just have lower stock clocks? Most likely the 8120 and the 8150 would have the same overclocking cieling.

No MSRP drop, just retailers dropping prices down to where they were supposed to be to begin with. They simply raised the prices on launch to get that extra money from people that are launch week early adopters. The article is sensationalist and should be ignored.
