You know this is something I've kind of wondered about. This isn't the toliet paper market. If Intel did not continue to make faster and better CPUs at an acceptable price...no one would upgrade. If it didn't perform better...no one would upgrade...if it did perform better, but Intel charged a fortune for the CPU...no one would upgrade. This is one market that a monoply probably wouldn't matter. As it sits right now Intel basically only competes with its self and AMD only competes with its self...and the older, cheaper Intel offerings, but Intel probably doesn't even notice.

However, I personally hope AMD hangs around as even distant competition will not hurt anything. Plus, then Intel and AMD can copy each others' ideas thus giving us more inovation.

But its not a price cut... Retailers were simply selling for ABOVE the MSRP AMD gave. If anything, its just greedy retailers backing off a little and becoming a little more fair.

The only reason I am disappointed with BD lackluster release is that it doesn't give Intel any reason to lower prices to compete.

FYI, retailers in the UK and most of europe don't even have these chips yet, 21-28th is the delivery date for most retailers in the UK.

I think AMD have one more shot at this before their CPUs become completely irrelevant in the gaming world. Their GPUs are still fantastic, but that's probably due to the fact TSMC manufacture their chips, which is also probably why news has emerged that they may turn to TSMC to manufacture their CPUs also.

Here's hoping they sort them selves out. Until I see improvement, ivy bridge is still my scheduled upgrade.

What a fail article. Every CPU ever released sold more at release. Every electronic ever released gets price dropped after initial release. This is how markets work, and the cuts are from retailers, not AMD. Intel also cut the 2500k price too. Also, what is this massive BD hype everyone is blaming AMD for. All the hype I saw came from immature Intel fan boys causing untold havoc on every AMD discussion. AMD is a company with a marketing plan like every other large corp. Can someone say where AMD lied about it's product? We all knew IPC would not match Intel's. What still remains to be seen is if BD architecture is going to cut the mustard. To say AMD could become irrelevant is just plain stupid. Everyone needs to remember where the money is at, and desktop enthusiast's systems are not where it's at. That's just where all the fan boys are.

By the time 64 bit was supported enough and started being used by everyone, AMD launched a new generation of CPUS which was faster and better. The same guys that were crying AMD For The Future, sold their 64 bit Athlons and bought new chips.

If you want to feel better when you make the BD purchase, then keep telling yourself that BD will be competitive in the future.

LOL^

An AMD bulldozer is an excellent choice for the future. Because unlike you, most people do not upgrade their computer chip every 7 months, but about every 4 years.

So, this BD chip will get more powerful/useful to the end-user as time goes bye. It is called future proofing.

On, the other hand, if an end-user went the Intel route, their applications today, would respond no differently than in the future, because the archetecture is meant for present day software.

Wishmaker... Only you need an Intel chip, because you need the fastest CPU at all times. Unless you wouldn't be able to live, right? So why do you constantly impose that thought process and extrapolate it upon the general population of this planet..?

Battlefield 3 (the most anticipated computer game ever) as a litmus test, runs equally well on either Intel, or AMD. So buying either for todays game is pointless.

But for Window8 and beyond..?

Yeah, and you could say the same for a thurban or any other cpu with more than one core.
Would not take one for free. Glad I picked up a 2500k recently.
