[SP]AMD Is Already Cutting 8-Core FX-8150 Bulldozer CPU Price - Page 10

Glad I was being realistic and invested my money in 2600k three months ago, instead of riding on the BD hyped train.

This is how markets work, and the cuts are from retailers, not AMD. Intel also cut the 2500k price too. Also, what is this massive BD hype everyone is blaming AMD for. All the hype I saw came from immature Intel fan boys causing untold havoc on every AMD discussion. AMD is a company with a marketing plan like every other large corp. Can someone say where AMD lied about it's product? We all knew IPC would not match Intel's. What still remains to be seen is if BD architecture is going to cut the mustard. To say AMD could become irrelevant is just plain stupid. Everyone needs to remember where the money is at, and desktop enthusiast's systems are not where it's at. That's just where all the fan boys are.
My issue is that AMD did nothing to correct the supposed leaked information and rumor. The dissapointment factor would have been severly reduced if AMD would corrected all the false assumptions being thrown around.

And a price drop is a price drop. It doesn't matter if AMD did it or the retailer did it. If the demand was there the price wouldn't have dropped.

A lot of people don't care if BD is going to run great in the future, since it dosen't perform as well as expected right now, especially considering that, at least on paper, Ivy Bridge will out perform BD in every way.

The 8150 needs to be $159 to be competitive to the 2500k

What ever we think of BD, the important fact is AMD will End-Of-Life the PhenomII soon. So it's the immediate future for AMD high end consumer CPU.

I have one machine running on a 2.2GHz 4x PhenomII. So my options are to upgrade to the 6x PhenomII before AMD drop it, of course there will be eBay. Or choose the Intel route.

I am very happy with my 6x PhenomII in my main machine, but like everyone was waiting for the BD because AMD published it as a 8 core CPU.

Yes, this chip sucks big time.
But as Masked said ... sometimes a step back is needed to take 4 steps ahead.

Lets w8 and see... i think that everyone already knows what these first version of BD is in terms of performance.

As for the prices... i think they will lower the prices but it will always be more expensive than the 2500k.
It's certainly possible the architecture could turn out fine and the current chips just suffer from poor design in one way or another, or just not working with existing software. However at the moment we have no signs that it's a good architecture either. So right now a lot of possibilities are up in the air, but you cannot definitively say that the architecture does or does not suck.

Of coarse Intel followed suite shortly after and OS optimizations proved the move was the future. Nothing different here, mark my words BD will perform adequately, and allow future programs to fully exploit the multi-threaded CPU's. IPC is already high enough, the only way to branch forward is to increase threads.

Microcenter has the 2500K for 179.99. Would you really buy an 8150 that's 90 dollars more
