Hey Guys,

Thinking now of doing a GTX 580 SLI....right now I have the EVGA GTX 580 SC version....the q is, do I want to SLI with the exact same card, or would it be ok to get something like the 3G mem version of the card to take advantage of the extra RAM.....

IIRC, I don't believe you can mix and match cards with different amounts of memory.
Alos, the faster card would throttle down to match the speed of the slower card.

Top guy is correct the faste card will slow down to match the slower card

I Crossfired a 1GB and 2GB 6950 for like a day, before I exchanged the 1GB. Max ram with that kind of setup will always be the lower amount, in my case the other 1GB was invisible basically.

You could get a 3 gb but if you SLI it with a 1.5 gb version, it will gimp the 3 gb one down to 1.5.. So there will be no extra VRAM. .. Even if you get another 1.5 gb , the memory doesn't stack in SLI, You still only have 1.5 gb usable ( per gpu )...
And as said before if one card is faster , it will be gimped down to the slower cards speeds .

yeah, if anything, try to SLI with the exact card...
No gain in getting a 3GB or stock card as SLI will only get you the lower specs... and am not sure if you can SLI 1.5gb with 3GB...

Regardless, they will always run in parallel with the lower specs...
and good luck! it will be a good choice especially if you have the CPU to backup those beasts...

I'll post my specs and start contributing more once I fully get set here...currently trying to get through a slight RAID problem. This is gonna be a sweet rig, already dumped over 3k into it so far....
