I currently have an EVGA GTX 570 Superclocked. I am getting BF3 in a few days and I have a couple of different alternatives in regards to graphics.

1. Run a single GTX 570 SC
2. Run a single GTX 570 SC AND a GTS 250 for PhysX.
3. Buy a second GTX 570 SC and run in SLI.
4. Sell the GTX 570 and buy a GTX 580 3GB

I can't do a GTX 580 SLI or that would be the obvious choice to me. The 570 SC only has 1.28GB VRAM. I hear that BF3 eats up VRAM but it could be a memory leak issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

The 250 for Physx will do nothing for BF3.. as BF3 doesnt use Physx..
Another 570 is the best route IMO.
One 570 is enough for High/Ultra at 1080p and below. So two in SLI will RAPe any single monitor setup. ( barring those crazy high resolution ones ) lol

So you don't think the whole VRAM issue will cause a problem?

I agree with this. Though i would first try OCing your 570 to find its max stable clock with a reasonable voltage. AFAIK 890-900 on the core(with mem stock) is equal to a single 580. So if your max stable is around 580 speeds, then wait for the game to release and try it before you buy another 570.

We will know when the game is released.

The only reason I would be going to a 580 is for the 3GB version. I don't think I'll get any kind of significant overall increase from 570 to 580. I just figured if I am going for a 3GB card I mine as well go for the 580.

This was more of a question for people who played the BETA. I didn't, so I was wondering if this VRAM issue was a problem for everyone.

I played the Beta for 40h. And although my Vram was maxed, i didn't have any issues with frame rate lag. That was with my GTX570 @870core 2000mem, and settings at ultra except for shadows(high), and the setting that affects the amount of grass, flowers, ect(high).

Thats the thing. The Beta was a beta, with suspected memory leak issues..
I was in the Alpha and Beta.. Did I use alot of Vram?? yes, damn near all of it.
But it ran butter smooth..
The final game will probably use the same amount, But it will have the memory leak issue fixed, and all the textures will be there ( as in alot of the stuff in the beta was not done ).

This is the information I was looking for... thanks man!

It's looking like everyone thinks I should go for the SLI. This is good since this was my initial thought.

I was in the exact same situation as you about a month ago. Had a GTX 570 SC and was wondering whether to (a) buy another 570 or (b) sell it and get a 3GB 580.

The main issue I had was laggy gameplay in Crysis 2 and Metro 2033 due to dips in FPS. Think I was getting average 40fps in crysis and 35 in metro. Buying the second 570 completely removed this issue. Crysis 2 now averages 70fps and metro stays above 60. If I had upgraded to a single 580 then I would have maybe got an extra 5-10fps in these games which would have been a pointless upgrade for me.

Vram is overrated imo (depending on your resolution). Crysis 2 maxes out my vram - does it cause any issues? No.

Dual GTX 570s should be about right for BF3. A single one could be a bit lacking in terms of ultra or high settings.
