Looking for a budget motherboard for a i5 2500k - Page 2

$60 is a little hard to work with, especially when you're loking to overclock that chip. You would need atleast a p67 or z68 motherboard, P67 will be more desirable as the price will be a little less compared to a Z68 mobo, you won't be missing out on much (ssd caching and lucid vitu - onboard gpu)

You may have to look at a few open box deals or even at the forsale section here at OCN.

Here are a couple that you could probably get and will probably allow you to overclock, but you won't be breaking records with it though.

Here's the cheapest P67 mobo I could find on newegg, it's not the best mobo but would do you expect for that price lol

MSI P67A-C43 (B3) $85 Open box

It has only one PCI-E 16x slot and 4phase VRM design which sould be able to handle 4ghz atleast, but not sure about that. If you could maybe increase your budget then I'm sure you could get a much better mobo.

This PRO3 Asrock motherboard is priced at $110 after Rebate and has an 8phase VRM design which should be able to handle 4.5ghz+ with no problems, however I believe it lacks SLI/CF.

Depending on what you're building the rig for, amd might be a better option due to the lack of funds avialable to you right now, however a 2500 and h67 equivalent might also be a good idea, like I said depends on what the primary usage will be for the rig.

Hope that helps

I am running the PRO 3 board from AsRock and it just has one slot no SLI or CF, but that is why I bought it... I am running 4.4 GHZ no problem on aouto settings... Very smooth and no hiccups at all.... Well worth the 110.00

This board might allow some small overclocks (like 4,0-4,2GHz) and it's only 90$:

I had a PRO 3 board and while the auto overclocking worked to get me to 4.2Ghz, there was a problem with manual overclocking. Every time I selected the manual multiplier, LLC settings disappeared from the BIOS options
