Why not buy it? AT&T lets iPhone users upgrade a month after new ones are released if you bought the last one as soon as it was available. If you get into the cycle of buying a new one and selling your old one, you practically get a new iPhone every year for free since out of contract iPhones sell for so much.

How will it be beaten to a pulp? Let's see how long it takes any Moto product to sell 4 million units. Then we'll talk about who is getting beaten to a pulp, lol.
Eh? The S2 has sold over 10 million units in (is it 1 or 2 now?) weeks. I don't deny it, the 4S has been much more successful than I expected sales-wise, likely due to the fact that many held onto their 3Gs/3GSs and skipped the 4 to upgrade now.

It's too funny to read these threads about Apple products on OCN. OCN is mostly a community of bang-for-the-buck people that value hardware above almost anything else. Apple doesn't fit into that category, nor has it ever tried to. Flaming Apple because of it's relatively poor performance:dollar ratio is pointless because that is not what Apple tries to maximize.

Do you really think that most people buying a cell phone base their decisions on the hardware (i.e. cpu, gpu, etc.) in the phone? No. Just because many people at OCN do doesn't mean that everyone else does. I think it's a fair assumption that people base their phone choice based on 1) functionality, 2) style, and 3) features. Although the iPhone might not be the best in each individual category, you'd be hard pressed to find a phone that does all three just as well. The iPhone is certainly a fad, and that may be why a lot of people buy it; is there anything wrong with that? Not in my opinion.

I've personally owned every iPhone except for the 4 (wasn't eligible for upgrade when it came out) and bought the 4S coming from a 3GS. Do I think it was worth it? Yeah. Am I completely happy and satisfied with my purchase, as I have been with all my previous iPhones, despite knowing that they don't have the newest hardware? Yeah. Am I an Apple fanboy? No.

Just because Apple doesn't strive to maximize the OCN's community desire for performance doesn't mean that the iPhone not a perfect solution for many people out there. If a product is bad and not worth it, people won't buy it. If a product is good and worth it, then people will buy it. It's basic economics, and anyone who argues otherwise is just ignorant to the fact that Apple combines style, functionality, and performance in a way that appeals to many, many people.

He said "in many categories". It's one of the fastest in terms of CPU (flops), and currently the fastest GPU in terms of 3D rendering.

I'm guessing that 10 million is worldwide, in which case it's been out 4-5 months.

Just got my 4S after being an android user for years. I love Google products and don't own any other Apple products. The facts came down to functionality. Apple has quite a few fundamentally important things figured out when it comes to software and hardware, a problem that Android phones are coming to terms with, but still have issues.

My perfect phone would be a phone made from Google itself with what they know now, properly optimizing the software. Until then, I'll thoroughly enjoy my iPhone.

Motorola Razr sold 130 million units in 4 years.

Since the release of the iPhone (2007 right?) about 100 million have been sold.

Its not really news that a company is selling a large number of phones.

Can we stop now?

Yep, the 10 million sold excludes those in NA.

Problem with Android is still the amount of phones, companies and carrier specific ROMS. It's much easier to optimize a single phone as opposed to 40. I'm not using it as an excuse but rather an issue Google needs to fix.

Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to fix a lot of performance issues - especially the utilization of dual cores. But I guess we'll find out soon.

Until then, iPhones are pretty much the only 'perfectly' optimized phone. And you will enjoy it, as it's a great phone. Just hope you didn't come from a 4+ inch screen! It's tough to go smaller

I see, I stand corrected. There are so many Galaxy phones, I wasn't aware that the S2 was out everywhere already for so long. What took it so long to hit the states?

AMEN. Same here man. I love Google products, but Android seems a bit unfinished at the moment. After owning a Palm Pre I REQUIRED a good battery, simple functionality, and stability.
