I was reading the specs on the ASRock Extreme4 Gen 3, and this part caught my eye:

"- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, RAID 5, Intel® Rapid Storage and Intel® Smart Response Technology), NCQ, AHCI and "Hot Plug" functions"

How can you run RAID 5 or 10 on 2-SATA ports? The board has 4-SATA3 ports in total, but 2 are provided by the Marvell controller. You can't combine ports from different controllers in a RAID array, can you?

My guess is that you would have to utilize some sort of SATA backplane hardware.
