First Build ~$1,200 Suggestions

Thread Starter
So I've been back and forth on building a computer for years, finally pulling the trigger between now and black Friday. Will be used for gaming and general use.

What kind of performances do you think I will get with this setup at 1920x1200, on games like BF3, Skyrim, SWTOR.

Any suggestions/critiques are welcome.

Build looks solid, I would swap out the HDD for a Samsung spinpoint F3 (fast, reliable and relatively cheap ~50$)

PSU might be a little on the high side of things in terms of wattage, but this is OCN !

Do you plan on overclocking the cpu ?

I might suggest the 6970 instead if you have the budget, others might chime in on this.

I do plan on OC'ing as long as its not too difficult. I do plan to buy an H-series Corsair cooler as from what I ready they are effective and very easy for beginners to install. PSU is in combo deal now at newegg and I figured it give mr some room to dual gpu if i have the money

Minor changes:
HDD: Samsung spinpoint f3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...spinpoint%20f3
Optical: ASUS 24X DVD Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135204

No reason to pay more than 20 bucks for a cd drive - HDD is self explanatory by all the reviews and every other post up on here between the f3 and WD black HDD units

Did you just suggest him to go from a 6950 to a 550? Can you please explain your reasoning?

No it is not. Especially when he's only playing games and using it for general use.

You do need to get an aftermarket CPU cooler if you plan on O/Cing. Depending on what you want air vs water we can assist you further.

Air: Hyper 212+ is pretty common

Water: H70 for starters is a nice closed unit won't run you too much.

GTX 550 is horrible vs the 6950 2GB, its even a bit worse.

Also, OP, I recommend this build I made with advice from hundreds of other people:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=21876407

Better parts etc.

The Toxic has a 6970 PCB, same clock as 6970, and has a very high unlock rate from just BIOS switch. I really recommend it over the HIS

i7

Better case, NZXT Phantom is epic looking.

Higher quality HDD

SSD

And more that's better

The Z68 is also better than the P67

How hard is it to OC the CPU and flash a new bios onto a 6950?

He probably meant 560TI. 550 is more competing with the 6770.
