Crash after OC'ing AMDX4 955 to 3.6ghz +.. Am i underpowering??

i had a M2N32-SLI DELUXE, AMD X2 3000+ BLACK EDition, 4 gb ddr2, 8800gt nvidia and 500w psu. ht omega striker 5.1, ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

decided was time for a change.. and while i was at it my neighbor wanted to match what i was building.
So now we have -
ASUS M4A88T-M LE mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W
ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1563-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
temperature on his cpu didnt go above 52c while gaming..
mine didnt go above 48c while gaming..

i set his up, and used the asus to OC his pcu. its at 3.6 ghz @ 1.375v i think. RAM left stock in bios (i know i should manually set the timings)
he can run crysis 2 on ultra settings, with dx11, and the textures pack. could also run the BF3 demo on ultra. it looked AMAZING. jaw dropping amazing and no lag. (forgot to check fps..)

So it came time for mine. put it all together.. set it all the same and it al seems stable (ran guru 3d). i OC mine to the same and in the middle of crysis 2 or BF3.. even Bad Company 2 the games would crash to the desktop and have weird visuals. like holograms apearing behind the icons and the graphics would be screwed up. its hard to even explain. like white with red lines could appear while next to it a prizm looking patch of colors and this is ALL over the display. i can load any program and even go back into the game but graphics are all messed up. everything is FINE when i reset the pc.
ive had the video card now for 2 months (ran it in my old rig before building new)

the only thing i can think of is the power supply. he has his 680w psu in and mine is 500w (i used to have a 1000w antec and it fried and i never replaced it).

according to this site, i am JUST barely good enough to operate.. but is this "just good" to run for normal operations and when im oc'ing it and running a game theres not enough juice??
http://images10.newegg.com/BizIntell...alc/index.html

could it be a power issue? things are FAR from over heating.. and i do have 4 case fans and a HDD fan.
when i load stock bios, disable cool n quiet, and run at stock settings it doesnt crash at all. bf3 demo, crysis 2 (i can load ultra but is laggy so i placei t one down).

any help is appreciated.
j

edit: also i installed the HT Omega sound card drivers and used it and i lost ALL video out of the nvidia. i tried everything and than yanked the ht omega out and used on board video to uninstall the card drivers. plugged nvidia back in and i was in business.

another reason i think it might be power related.

Basically the board you're using is not a great board to overclock with. It is actually, probably, highly recommended against. It's a 3+1 power phase board and while supporting a 125w CPU load, the board isn't built well enough to handle much more.

I would suggest not overclocking it and if I were in your shoes I would either return it, sell it, or trade it; and get a new board that you can overclock with.

Bearer of bad news, I know. Sucks.

ok.. well thank you for your advice.

ive read other stuff that says they have done well with that exact same set up.
and my buddies is OC'd no problem at all on his.

i just wanted to get peoples opinions about the power and see if they think i could be under powering it.

I agree with this statement... I am runing the 955 @ 3.6 no problems. Been higher, but dont really need to so here it sits. My board is not what is in my sig (need to change that). I have a 8+2 power phase, which is pretty much the minimum if you dont want to destroy your system while overclocking.

There will be people that have no problems at all overclocking on their lower power phase boards, but if you do a search here you can hear the horror stories about exploding boards.

But, by all means, if you want to try it bump the vcore to 1.4 and let her rip... but please dont be mad if it dies

ok.. after the better explanations on here i understand a little bit more about the significance of the power phase.

so - can anyone suggest a good, low priced 8 +2 phase asus board? (ive had a good 10 years of asus products at work and home and just like them)
Im thinking ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3. its $130 on sale at NE and has alot of good reviews and is 8+2 phase. (reviews http://www.google.com/products/catal...wAQ&os=reviews)

i hate to say low priced but i got a baby at home and we need a new heat pump and already pushed the wife to the limits building a new rig for B3.. and my buddy's wife just found out how much he spent on his rig that i built.

i can get newegg to rma these since we JUST got em.
any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks!
J

p.s. anyone think i should just get a new PSU while i am at it for ****s n giggles?

what revision of the 955 do you have, I have a c2 and im at 3.7ghz and I can't go past 3.7 and be stable no matter what I do, and it looks like no one else can really get past that on a c2, whereas on a c3 revision of the 955, people are going to 4.0 no problem, u might have just got an unlucky chip that can't go past 3.5-3.6. although I am running a 990fxa-ud3 board which is better at overclocking. and the power shouldn't be an issue, I only have a 650wat running a gtx 580, ocd CPU and ram, and 3 raptor hdd's, and the psu so far has no problems under load, although it could matter what brand you have since some don't actually out out the rated wattage.

its a c3.

i only have 500w psu (its a no name as well because that was all i had around after my 1000w antec died).

its just odd thou.. same system as my buddy and his is fine @ 3.6
only difference is hdd and psu's. (my hdd is better)
