Is my fan running too high for my 6850?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I have an XFX 6850 in my rig and the temperature when I'm using it for work stays between 36-38C but my fan in CCC is always at 40-45% speed. I am kind of hesitant to choose "Enable Manual Fan Control" in AMD Overdrive because I don't want to lock it down to 20% always, but am wondering if there's a way I can have it stay on "auto" mode but have it run at a slower fan speed. Is there any type of custom profile I could set for it in CCC?

Thanks!

Download sapphire tricks and set the fan to a custom profile then u can decide how loud it gets at what temps.

Yeah, I use Sapphire Trixx for fan control on my 6950. MSi Afterburner has fan control as well, I believe.

Set it as high as tolerable. Cooler card is better for it's life.

well is your problem noise though? or is it your just scared to make the fan work hard? if its the 2nd you dont have to worry those fans are rated for whatever there lifespan is but on max (100%). Before I got my 2 Gelid Icys I already had my fans on manual control and when I gamed the top card was set to 90% and the bottom was set to 80%, In my opinion I would not trust CCC with my fan control it always seems to me like it let them get way to hot before it turned them up and then it never even really turned them up that much when the card was getting close to 90c or something. If sound is the problem your speaking of then I'd suggest you try the Trixx like people are suggesting. Fan noise never bothered me but maybe thats cuz I wear Headphones 24/7.
