[RP] Samsung To Manufacture Apple-Designed Quad-Core A6 Chip

Full Title: Samsung To Manufacture Apple-Designed Quad-Core A6 Chip Despite Strained Relationship With Apple

Quote:
The news comes from 9to5Mac – a blog dedicated to covering all things Apple – in a post in which they discuss a report by Korea Times which cites “industry sources†who claim that Apple’s A6 chip is being manufactured by Samsung.
Quote:
“Apple has been in talks with Samsung over shipment of its A6 quad-core mobile processor (AP) chips to be used in the next iPhone. It appears that Apple clearly has concluded that Samsung remains a critical business partner,’’
Quote:
Apple is one of Samsung’s most important clients, and we have developed a solid partnership. But that’s a separate matter from the legal disputes between the two companies in areas where they compete.
Business as normal.

"Can't afford"? What? No.

They're in contract, it probably can't be breached without much larger consequences.

I still find it pretty amazing that with all the law suits and what not that the board of directors don't take it personally. I know business is business, but i find it hard to believe that Samsung needs apple to survive.

Samsung would take a big hit without Apple, but not a critical one.

C'mon Samsung...grow a pair.

Contractual obligations, I'm sure. If Samsung wasn't in contract with Apple, you can bet Samsung would have dropped Apple a long time ago.

As stated already Samsung is huge, and all this lawsuit buisness is normal and happens all the time, everyone is just being exposed to it now.
On top of that I'm sure Samsung would not give up a contract like this over some lawsuits.

I think it is mutual to be honest.

Samsung do not NEED Apple but they certainly benefit with them as a partner. Samsung not only provide the CPU, but also the motherboard and display. If Apple were to go else were, they would be losing out on an entire phone production, and when the iPhone is the fastest selling phone in the world, you would be stupid to turn down that sort of guaranteed business.

Likewise Apple are very dependant on Samsung. They not only manufacture the CPU but also the retina display and motherboard. Samsung have refined the technology, keep the cost base low and have an engineering grasp of Apple's requirements.

Both companies don't necessarily need each other, but they both certainly benefit from the partnership.

I disagree, see above. It's simply not that simple when you're trying to compete in a cost competitive world such as the smart phone market.
