Unstable at (fairly) low clocks...

Hi,
To start, I'm not trying to break any records here. I would like to have a clock of around 4.5GHz, stable for 24hr use. It's an i7 990X, system specs in my sig. Since it will be used a lot, I would like to keep my vcore fairly low (lets say under 1.375, since that is the "official" spec for my cpu). After looking around a bit at other people's clocks it seems like my system is getting unstable much sooner than it should.
At 32x133MHz (4.26GHz) with 1.359V, I thought it was stable. I ran Prime95 longer today though, and the program crashed after several hours.
At 27x160MHz (4.32GHz) with the same voltage I think, it bluescreened after regular use. lolz.
At 33x133MHz (4.39GHz, actual 4.41) with 1.368V, shown below, the system runs great thumb.gif ...until I try prime95, and the program crashes after about a minute.
I could go and raise the voltage more, but it just seems like that shouldn't be necessary for these clocks, considering what some people have posted.

What are people's thoughts on this?

After reading some other things, I have another question. Assuming temperatures are always good, can voltages higher than the official spec actually hurt the cpu over time? Cooling is not a problem really, with my temperatures averaging in the 60s under 100% load.

What i believe is your CPU will eventually start to fail, no one can really tell how much your shortening its life but neither can they tell how long it would last in the first place if you never overclocked it to begin with. I think if you keep temps low your doing the best you can do. I had my e6600 2.4 running @ 3.4 for 3 years. Its retired now and i sold it, but the new owner had no complaints of its performance! Im not sure about most people, but after a few years i get the itch to upgrade!

As far as your stability issues. Not every CPU is going to perform the same when it comes to overclocking. Id go with a little more vcore and see if it works.. If not just lower the voltage down and play with some other settings.

Thanks, thats good info! I suppose a controlled test could never really be done to see the effects on cpu lifespan.

Any other people's thoughts on the original post about stability given my voltages?
