AMD or Intel? - Page 3

Intel.

2500k then upgrade to Ivy. Or keep Sandy.

Or

2600k now, and just forget about it.

Intel 2500K or 2600K is most recommended.
AMD still has good chips for the price for gaming. BD has nothing to do with Phenom IIs still being great CPUs for a gaming rig.

as far as I know, most games don't even fully utilize four cores, the i5 Is a great CPU and I'll be using it for my first build.

Most games use 1-2 cores. Very few use 4 cores, and even fewer would use 6. So, 6 cores are plenty enough for gaming, but if you are split between an Intel 2500k 4 core, and an AMD X6; the 2500k is the right decision for gaming!

Have you seen the memory benchmarks between a stock IMC on a 2500/2600k vs a X6 that is overclocked? We are talking 5-10 MB/s more bandwidth!

Have you seen how X6 is lucky to hit 4GHz and 2500/2600k hits 4.8GHz with ease?

On a $1,500 budget..... you really should be going intel. If you do not want to switch sockets right now, you would benefit by at least getting a killer water loop, a new board that supports DDR3, and some nice memory that is at least 8GB worth. (3x2GB would be nice too on triple channel)

2500k Intel.

This is like asking if you should go with a Ford Focus or a Corvette.

I heard that CompUSA/TD were going to be selling a 2600k for $219 on 10/21-22. I'm not sure if that is B&M only or not.
