Budget upgrade.

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my wife's oem machine. It currently has a Phenom I 9100e 1.8ghz (), a Foxconn micro atx board, and generic 4gb of DDR2. Performance is not a factor, just function with a limited budget. This machine is usually used to transfer photos and vids but nothing fancy, facebook, live video chat.

I have the some spare ddr3 ram and I found this combo on newegg. Just looking for opinions on the mb or if another combo is better.

And again, I stress budget so I have need for any oc'ing/BE cpus.

I can offer a touch of insight for you. I have the TA880GB+ version of the board (4xDDR3 versus 2xDDR3 slots, and a few other things like more USB ports, better audio) and they're essentially the same.

They're great boards. BIOS has tons of features (mine does at least). I also have a friend who bought the exact board you're looking at and put a 720BE in it. Works a charm, even clocked at 3.2Ghz.

They offer unlocking and I did try to unlock a Sempron without success. I think you've got a good package there.

A pentium sandy bridge setup could be put together for that kinda money, the cpu would be marginally better and the gfx would be marginally worse. I think your selection is quite solid.

Thanks guys. I found this combo as well with an x3 athlon that's a bit faster but I'm not too sure of the mb:

The first one has a much better graphics chipset, doesn't seem like much of what she uses it for would take advantage of a third core. Plus I would be much more comfortable with a biostar board than a jetway board.

Do you have a microcenter close by?

Not close by, but I think I'm going with the fist combo. Thanks again

Thanks, but no need for the a BE as stated in op. Its an upgrade for my wife's oem machine. I just placed an order for the first combo plus some ripjaws for my rig. I'll be using the pats 4gb I have for the upgrade on her machine.

If it’s used for photos/videos you will benefit from a SSD drive much more than going from DDR2 to DDR3

How about an i3 2100 build of somekind. You do have ddr3 and you could get a fairly cheap Mobo. What is the limit of your budget?
