Thanks for that link. I'll add to OP.

Has to do with hacking the phone.

Did you even read the review...? They tested each camera with the same light source. The only one that was different was the flash test, which measured the quality of flash and flash exposure.

Indeed. It's a great mobile camera that is stupidly overlooked. Why it's not included in these comparisons is beyond me, maybe it's that it will dominate all of the competition?

Even the Xperia X10 has a very impressive camera, especially considering it's nearly 2 years old now. I have taken quite a few outdoor photos that have surprised me and that are of better quality than some of the high-end phones releasing now, low-light is putrid with the X10 though.

I didn't see this posted anywhere, hope I didn't miss it.

Another source for camera tests:
They need to remove image tags from the pictures and run through a quiz type test.

Show series of images taken with various smart phones, let the viewers decide. There's way too much iBias going around these days for these articles to hold any water. The comment section will always end up "I hear what the review says, but the Apple 4S pictures look the best to me".

I have a feeling they often "look the best" due to the "Apple iPhone 4S" tagline at the bottom.

Need an unbiased test. Same thing as this article does, but remove the image tags, let users rank them in order of best to worst and then we can MAYBE have an educated discussion.

Personally, the Galaxy SGII pictures looked the best overall for the phones. Best image clarity and definition, best shadow details, white balance and lack of glare.

That having been said, if I'm shooting a pic with my phone, I probably didn't care much in the first place or I'd use my 5D II.

Are you talking about a Canon 7D here? If so, it's all down to your lenses.

There's literally no chance in hell for a phone to beat a DSLR with an f1.4 lens and a moderate ISO setting at night.

For example:

f1.4 50mm lens, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II. One light source, a street light about 50 feet away (you can see it reflected in the racoon's eyes) and I could BARELY see him with my naked eye due to the darkness. This is a living animal obviously and a handheld shot...which means shutter speed of at least 1/24 or less (ie: could have filmed it with the same exposure level, this wasn't a long exposure shot on a tripod or something).

Phone cameras will literally never compete with a DSLR simply due to optics and sensor sizes.

It's quite impressive what they CAN do considering they're phones and small, but I dislike when people get carried away with it.

These images are obviously also able to be captured in uncompressed, 14bit formats.

Most camera tests will include important specs like camera time to 1st shot and shot to shot times.

Considering that the 4s is much faster than the Gs2, that may lean some in the 4s favor.

Also low light performance handheld or moving subjects make a big difference... and is often the Exact Scenario that users encounter. (the 4s is also expected to perform better as the max aperture is faster)

With a tripod and still subjects you will not see the advantage in reducing motion blur, less good cameras will look just as good as better cameras.
