[PCWorld]Smartphone Camera Battle: iPhone 4S vs. the Android Elite - Page 3

I'll probably go back to Sony Ericsson when I get my next Upgrade because a good camera is important to me my past 2 (Satio and C902) have been excellent at taking pictures. I can get satifactory pictures from my HTC Sensation, knocking Sharpness down to -1 gets rid of a lot of the artifacting it gets stick for and sometimes adjusting saturation and contrast gets more realistic colour. It's still not a match for what my Satio could do stills wise. Video is better on the Sensation though but that's only because of the higher res.

I don't see why they rated the 4s camera as worse than the SGSII. The pictures clearly look better than the SGS especially around the edges where the SGS blurs and the iPhone is still crisp. The video is also better.

Are you blind? The 4S video shoot was not at all crisp.

Video comparisons are pretty hard to do on the Internet. When they upload them to YouTube, they automatically have a compression filter on so the only thing you can really gauge is color quality and not sharpness. The best way to judge the video quality for yourself is to actually have all the devices on hand and watch their video captures on a computer or TV (if they have the correct output).

With a tripod and still subjects you will not see the advantage in reducing motion blur, less good cameras will look just as good as better cameras.
That's a very good point, though it would be hard to do "scientifically"

If they show the shutter speed then an experienced photographer could make conclusions.

The ip4 cameras is good, but going from f 2.8 to 2.4 is one f-stop, meaning your shutter can, say go from 1/4 sec. to 1/8th sec.

The tests they did make the faster lens advantage invisible.

True, but the internet isn't full of those. I can see why they didn't. Too many armchair commenters would contest it.

No it's not. It's 1/2 of a stop (f/2->f/2.8 is one stop). Honestly, not that significant. The big deal is the better sensor in low light/higher ISO's I believe.
