Just looking for some feedback on this system

I'm probably going to be purchasing a system in the near future, with a budget of around 1150 shipped. I'll be using it primarily for gaming and home studio audio (recording/editing/processing)

So as it stands now here is my build (all prices @newegg)

CPU:AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor$139.99

Motherboard: Asus M5A97 EVO ATX AM3+ Motherboard$119.99

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master RR-B10-212P-G1 76.8 CPU Cooler $24.99

Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1600 $49.99

Hard Drive: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM $58.99

Video Card: ASUS EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2 HD 6850 1GB $159.99

Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout mid tower $84.99

Power Supply: Antec Earthwatts-650w psu 69.99
OR OCZ Modxstream pro 600w psu $74.99

Monitor: Asus VH226H 21.5" Monitor$149.99

Optical Drive: Asus bulk oem drive $18.99

it all adds up to just a bit over $920. With Combo's/tax/shipping/extended warranties I have the grand total sitting at 1193.88, that is including thermal paste, anti static strap, wireless adapter and a mid range sound card (Asus Xonar_DG 5.1).

I kind of just want opinions on the parts i've selected, because even though I sifted through many many reviews to end up with these I probably might have missed crucial info about them. And also maybe alternate parts with the same functionality or just better for the price.

Can I ask what you think you'll be doing with your computer? Will gaming be your primary operation?

In that sense - are you partial to AMD and if so your parts are fine?!

If not, I would recommend building a system around an i5 2500K as it will outperform the AMD setup you have in both areas, gaming and for doing home audio studio work.

If you're thinking the AMD is what you really want I would recommend against the 970 and going with either a 955 or a 960T.

The 955 is essentially a 970 with only a lower multiplier whereas the 960T is built on the Thuban line. Because of this the 960T has a better memory controller and is capable of pushing higher memory clocks. The 960T is only clocked at 3Ghz though.

Both overclock very well in any case.

I'm only set on amd because it is so much cheaper than intel, I know that core for core intel is better and I still might switch over if the 2500 drops in price a little bit.

I had the 955 set to go, but my case combos with the 970 on newegg for -20 bucks, so I figured I would opt for a higher clocked processor.

you can get a 2500K for about 200 bucks. its a really good deal and well worth it. If you want the power you going to have to pay for it, otherwise you get what you pay for.

With a good deal like that, stick with it then. For gaming you'll be fine. I have a 6850 and it performs admirably. The 970 is also a great CPU choice.

I like the Antec over the OCZ, by the way. Another option would be the Corsair VX550, a great PSU.

I chose the ocz because it had pretty favorable reviews across the board, The antec is currently out of stock on newegg or I wouldn't have had to choose a backup option.

My friend just got the 750 watt version of the corsair vx and it powers his rig cool and quiet, but he also spent well over $130 on it since he had a 2k+ budget lol.

I got my VX550 on sale for $45.

Nothing wrong with the OCZ!
