Fresh Win7 Install - Static/Electrical Interference Sounds

Thread Starter
I just reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and now my sound is all screwed up. When sounds play they are full of static and electrical interference type noises. I'm thinking it might be a driver issue, but I'm not sure. Soundcard Model # SB0460. Any ideas?

Did you move anything around inside your computer? There shouldn't be any issues if the hardware is exactly the same as it was before your fresh Win7 install. Make sure the card is seated properly and your speaker/headphone cables are connected firmly. You could be right in that it may be a driver problem so a reinstall might be in order. Make sure to use a driver cleaning program like CCleaner before and after the install.

You could also try moving the card to a different PCI slot if you have one available.

I installed some extra RAM and my SSD. Installed Win7 a couple days ago and it was working alright. It started this today, I checked my connections, tried updating drivers and had no luck. So I reinstalled Win7 today, have checked connections again, tried installing drivers, and still no luck. Maybe tomorrow I will try a different PCI slot, although I don't know why that'd be a problem. This is an older model sound card and I'm wondering if it's just a matter of finding the right drivers for it. The new ones don't seem to be working 100%.

EDIT: Sounds also seem to freeze up after a few seconds and just stop.

I had that issue with my Audigy. The solution had to do with the crappy Win 7 Creative drivers. Right click on the volume icon, click "Playback Devices," choose "Speakers" on the correct device, choose "Properties," go to "Advanced" and set the Default Format to "24-bit, 96000Hz." It must've taken me months of Googling and frustration to find that. Hope this works for you!

I can also send you the version of the driver I have that works for me -- I know if I update it, that it stops working right, though I'm not sure if they're universal or just for the Audigy 2, though...

Hmm. I tried setting to 24-bit 96000Hz and no luck.

Anyone have good drivers for an X-fi card and Win7 64 bit?
