Help with some advice for taking better pictures. (56k) - Page 2

Dont discount HDR. It has it place and whiel true that some over do it it does not mean it should be discounted totally. You can do it so it does not look like a cartoon which is what most people seem to put out there that have no taste. It can make an otherwise dull lighting situation come out looking great by bringing out colors that are there but get washed out. Try everything and decide for yourself what style you want to stick with. Do not let anyone steer you away from something you may end up liking. This is an art form and until you know your style you need to try them all out.

excellent advice! Thanks a lot! So try to get everything out of the frame as much as possible then. Unless it could possibly be used as framing right? Alright makes sense though, I will take some pictures tomorrow to see what I can come out with. With the first car I should have probably moved one of the other cars out of the way, rather then being lazy and shooting it next to another.

Except that has to do with color saturation, not dynamic range. I can get the same effects by playing with color channels in Lightroom and changing their saturation values individually; no need to stack photos together for an HDR.

The pictures need more oomph because the flowers look dead. The pink fades with the bland background. Also, the wilting character of the some of the pedals adds to the drab tone of the overall image. Furthermore, framing of the first picture by centering ruins the balance. The top right pedals are all dead, so the eye naturally draws to the flaws

I suggest adding some contrast to make the flowers pop out and re-framing the image to balance it out.

You might want to make a habit of asking someone's permission before you edit their photo(s).

Yeah it is fall...so most of the flowers are dead. So I should probably try to pluck off all the dead pedals before shooting. I think I see it a bit more.

Alright so adding some contrast, and try to crop it a bit more? I kinda like the flower centered. If it was something like a road then I can see making it in the corner to draw the eye upwards into the picture. When its just the flower I kinda like it in the center.

I see what you mean now by framing on the first one. I should have cut the dead ones out of the physical picture...ohwell.

Specially with shots like this give more dynamics..like angles and such...that will help out alot...taking shots straight down just is i dont know to flat?
Try to take the photos at angles to give the flowers or objects like that more 3-d structure...that will pop out the pics...

I could show you, but my camera is right now is in the works of being fixed...really pissed about it to long story...

So i cant really show you what i mean with that...

Oh and some good reads...
Scott Kelby...He has great techniques with Post Production how to get certain effects..he also has books on shooting DSLR properly to get the desired effects when you shoot...
ill look for some more to help ya out just ahve to wait till tomorrow to get ahold of somebody who will be in the house hold with all the books i have...(im in texas right now home is in arizona) remembering them off hand ya pain

Hello!
I am a noob when it comes to DSLRs, if you look I just got it a few weeks ago. The post is still there haha...anyways.

I got some experimentation done and decided to put some pictures up to the rate the picture above you but sometimes they just give a grade and somethings that they didn't like, but they never tell me how to fix it. And that is not what its for I know. So I decided to make this thread. I hope its allowed, if not then sorry.

Okay here are some pictures of my first few nights with it. They are all taken inside.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/25825768@N05/ Don't want to take up too much space but here are the rest of my pictures...some are just multi purpose time pictures I took for a forum and such. Please if you can give advice on how to make them better. Thanks. I know the flowers are dying aswell..frown.gif

Lightning setup and placement is what all about.

Do you have Speedlight (nikon)? Try to get a flash for bounce in those shots.
Sorry for not being too detailed. It's 2:30AM here.... zzz
