Anybody have Dirt 3 Tips? - Page 2

Controller will definitely help. Although you will hate it at first and suck worst than on the keyboard, eventually you will get better.

Also turn off assists, except for ABS.

And just practice, practice, practice.

I play fine on the keyboard, at a tick or two below max difficulty and I have no problems. I think the issues you're having are more style based and would be present no matter what input device you used. Dirt 3 is realistic enough (though still not very) that you have to go a bit slower than you might want to to maintain traction and control. You can't just go balls-out through every turn. And use that flashback feature! Makes it so you don't have to redo a race because of a couple small mistakes that flipped the car or something.

I can't help much with the drifting, except to say that I've not found it useful to make hard (ebrake, flick) drift initiations in races very often. Sometimes it can be useful, but most of the time it either scrubs too much speed to be worth it or I lose control. Best method I've found is to just straight-brake into the corners, power on through the turn and the tail will come out just a little. Modulate the throttle, brake, and steering and you'll come out the other side with a perfect, controllable powerslide.

a wired Xbox 360 controller was the best investment I made for these games.
I still suck at gymkana, and all that sort of stuff. Best thing is practice.

hello mate, he did biggrin.gif

I'm thinking
1. Drive bonnet view.
2. Slow down for the "tight corners". And that should mean you can get "better corner exiting speeds" smile.gif
3. And, turn off the racing line! Because you won't learn the track, while you're looking at that! wink.gif
4. Practice against Ghost cars!
5. Get a Wheel!

But, I think you quite did well for keyboard cool.gif

Add me on GFWL if you like smile.gif
Then play single player, time trial. And then load up my Ghost Cars cool.gif
GFWL = ACHILEE5

oh, and I did just try that "track and car"! And got 1:36.004 devil-smiley-019.gif
And I did have Fraps recording, so I'll upload it to YouTube and post it smile.gif

Cool, thanks! Any reason you prefer bonnet view over cockpit?

its a preference of his. I used to race with him.

also he had a recommendation on the cars setup. If i remember correctly you should turn the differentials to stiff? turn the downforce to almost none. These are for dirt, tarmack rally courses.

Yeah, I always use hood / bonnet view. Seems closer to the actual experience of driving, since when you drive you're only paying attention to what's ahead of you, and not really what's going on inside the car around you.
