and Bulldozer made me nothing but a proud Thuban owner. Thuban beats Zambezi senseless in single threaded benchies biggrin.gif

Who buys a multi core CPU (6 or more cores definitely) to run single threaded applications? You don't buy an FX 8150 to run single threaded apps... you buy these CPUs for encoding video or rendering or multi tasking. That's what a multi core is made for.

I would wait for the next stepping before considering it. 1090t us a good CPU and currently on par and/or exceeds the 8 core bulldozer.

There still needs to be work done on both the hardware and software areas of bulldozer to really say how well it will do in the future.

Of course this should have been done during the R&D phase, not after it was released.

Edit:

We run single threaded apps and multi threaded apps. We don't get to choose if the app uses 1 or more cores, that's up to the software developer. Until EVERY app uses more than 1 thread, we expect decent single thread performance.

Yeah i doubt they'll have re-optimized every game/application/program in existence to use all 8 cores at once within a month...

/sarcasm off

I don't believe that a BIOS update is going to push Bulldozer from zero to hero.

Even in those specific workloads where BD should shine it really does not provide enough performance increase to warrant the upgrade from Thuban>BD. Maybe for a purpose built new system but really I can't see any upgrade path that is a good value.

If you say so. To each there own.

^^^ What a horrible signature, besides if anything should be flushed it's BD.
