Vcore question

Hi I’m new to the site and overclocking.
What I have learned so far is that increased voltage leads to increased heat. My question is that does high voltage on the CPU have an inherent risk other than heat.
What I’m asking is that if cooling was unlimited would voltage still be an issue?

You could kill your chip if you ran too much voltage through it.

As Tweetybird has said, too much voltage can kill your cpu. Too much heat can degrade your cpu and cause it to fail in time, this would most likely appear as Blue Screens of Death amongst other things.

Depending on what CPU it is, vcore/heat can be the overclocking limiting factor. With your 2600k (not k2600 ), The limiting factor will be voltage. With older cpus the limiting factor is usually heat.

cooling is a big factor: due to err..electron migration..the cooler the chip is..the less migration is likely..that's why they use the LN2 n stuff.. to put more voltage through the chip without killing it..i see you're running a sandy bridge chip..just remember ..when you hit the brick wall..stop! no amount of voltage will get you over/around the brick wall..i killed one of those with 1.76v

Is the heat as a result of the voltage ? If the chip was super cooled would voltage still kill it ?

By the way I dont plan to go beyond my current 4.8 ghz.

electrical components give off heat, when you increase the load (vcore and workload) on the cpu, it gives off more heat.

Even if you had Liquid Nitrogen on your CPu 24/7 and kept it at -200C 24/7, it would still die. The change in temperatures from the cooling (it would not be -200C constantly) would kill the chip. And no, just because the chip would be freezing cold, it would still die from high voltages.
