Hey guys, I just picked up the second 6870 and wow, I have never played games on everything full 8xaa and 16xaf. Brought some older games back to life. Been playing HL2 maxed everything on 1920x1080 getting 150+ fps and so smooth. I will try to give it some thing a little harder like Crysis or 2033 soon. All I have to say is, I think i'm set for another year until is it time something amazing comes out in the CPU market.

Get a new CPU, a 1090t like you said or a 975BE, the 1090t won't give you any benefit in games over a 4 core and the 975BE is clocked higher, unless you do video editing etc an X6 is not really needed.

I would go with the 2500k unless you just really want a Thuban.

The op specifically mentioned those options, and that would require a motherboard update which for his needs, if he were to upgrade a motherboard it would make far more sense to get an i5. Seems pretty reasonable that that isnt being considered.
