New AMD Upgrade - Page 3

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
Just wanted to update you on the upgrades. I always appreciate the Intel suggestions and I use them on all my servers, but I'm going to be an AMD fanboy as long as I can. My first computer built as a kid and till now they have always treated me right. Not to knock Intel.....they do have some sweet chips.

Anyway.
So I have recently upgraded to the 960T...not that I needed to but I had the itch... (we all know well) Unlocked and OC'ed to 3.825 ghz x6 stable and cool. Feel like I got my money worth even if it wasn't a huge jump. So will the new chip and 6870 CF I think I'm good to go for now.

BF3 running 4800 x900 on med is giving me about 80+ frames and above 50fps on High.
It is weird that I see CPU usage on all cores on most games, I don't know if Windows is allocating the resources or what is happening.
Anyway, I think the bottle neck now is just the VRAM on the video cards. What I read is 1gig is just not much for some of these newer games.

Well, all said and done, for only spending about $300 for upgrades this is about the best bang I can get.

Not I just need to hook up my 1920 x 1080 for the forth monitor to switch back and forth.
Anyone know of any good Monitor mounts that would let me mount 3x 20 lcds for eyefinity and a 23" on top for switching back and forth?

Thanks again!

Yes my understanding is that your video ram would be the only bottleneck I can see.....

Selling your crossfire cards and going with a high end single card is an option, you have the HD 7950 and GTX 580 with 3gb versions. Or keeping one for dedicated physx...not sure you can do that with ati cards anymore.

OR another route:
Go with a P67 motheboard and i5 2500K (pretty much neck at neck with a 1090T). Then upgrade to an Ivy Bridge CPU. IB will be compatible with P67.
