Problems with Athlon II x3 Core unlocking - Page 2

Try it without the patch. Also try more volts across the board (ht, nb, cpu), and disable power saving settings.

A side note: I use SLI patch to enable SLI support.
Stdby I am rebooting my comp and checking my BIOS, my mobo is M4a78lt-le.

In the BIOS under CPU Configuration :

Advanced Core : auto
Unleashed mode:
Active CPU :

tell if you have those. forget about the SLI patch.
With cpu-z tell me what is the volts.

It could also be that your 4th core is faulty or you may need to up the voltage a bit. but do list those 3 settings

I don't have any of those options in my Bios. Suggest a better Bios to flash?

My core voltage is set to auto, but it's on average at 1.380 according to CPU-Z.

Ah no such options hmmmm, did you check asus support page for a BIOS update ?

I would not recommend core voltage to auto as it takes more voltage than necessary.

The athlon X3 works well with 1.2 v. I am wondering if your 4th core is faulty or not stable.

I heard the some Propus chips can be unlocked, some wont even though it says its been unlocked. I had to bump up my voltage a bit to get it stabled but I got it on. It should unlock even though there isnt an L3 cache to unlock. Heres mine.

Also, like what the others already said, double check the options in your bios. That, or you do have a faulty core.

P.S. I have CoolnQuiet on.

Ok, I just flashed the latest BIOS from ASUS for my board. Looks exactly the same. Still no core unlocked. I'll try the voltage at 1.2 like you suggest.

Another thing this does, I noticed, is that when I do try to unlock my 4th core, it says that core unlocker doesn't work on this processor. Is that just because it failed?

No the 1.2v i used was for 3 cores for keeping AUTO voltage off so it did not use more voltage. You may need more voltage around 1.3 to 1.5 max.

Sounds like it has a faulty 4th core.

More than likely the 4th core is faulty. But still try bumping the voltage a bit but not too much. I had to do that with mine.

I turned off all the core unlocking stuff and set the voltage to 1.2v. It would load just fine until I hit windows, then blue screen instantly and turn off on it's own. I going to say forget about this processor, I'll just pick up a new one.

I've heard you can take a Phenom II x2 and make it into a quad. Is it worth it or should I just go for a quad out of the box?

You didn't read my earlier post that 1.2 V was for my 3 cores ONLY . My 4 th core umlock is @1.3v so you may just need to try 1.3-1.5 but I feel your 4th core is faulty.

If you are lucky than the Phenom you buy may unlock to quad.
