CPU-NB benefits only fast RAM?

I know a lot of you have probably seen this already, but I noticed the RAM speed goes up with the CPU-NB speed. I've read a lot of stuff about ideal ratios and such.
My question is: Is my 1066 7-7-7-18 RAM hampering my CPU-NB overclock? I bought it because it was such a great deal at the time and normally Phenom II does have much of a benefit from fast RAM.

So at 1066 RAM speed, will I not see any gains from OCing the CPU-NB? I read a few people saying things like 3x memory speed before DDR is equal to CPU-NB speed benefit.
533 x 3 = 1600MHz CPU-NB speed. Stock is already 2000MHz. If that equation is accurate, I'll see no gain, but is it?

WOW i take it from your picture that the EK Supreme HF is a great CPU water cooler.
i'm going to buy one at the end of the month with the full kit, radiator , pump, tubing, reservoir the whole thing.
my H70 is idling at 40C on the CPU and 29 core and on full load prime95 Bland 65-70C on the CPU and 59 on the core.

EK Supreme HF here i come biggrin.gif

@OP

3xDRAM speed = CPU/NB Frequency is correct. That doesn't mean you won't see gains from going higher than that ratio. It just means that (for instance):

3x800=2400 (3{value given for ratio, by AMD}x800{DRAM speed in frequency for DDR3-1600 or PC3-12800 RAM}=2400{Mhz of CPU/NB multiplied ratio, by 3}

What this does is reduce and/or negate bandwidth restrictions on memory by operating the NB/DRAM link in a higher frequency.

The higher you go theoretically the better you will scale but this will stop at some point due to the RAM you are using (maximum potential is maximum).

You guys have to remember everything is connected and inter-related. There is no reason to run a 3500 NB speed and leave the HTT link at 2000 MHz, it will cap your system memory bandwidth at 16MB/s. High HTT/NB also enables faster communication with the PCI lanes. You have to run faster RAM speeds to get the benefit off the increased bus speeds.
