Wait for FX-8170 - Page 2

And then if the 8170 sucks I guess people should wait for the 8190 with it's additional optimization right?

Unless they change something with a new stepping, I can't see the 8170 being any better than the 8150, minus the increased clock speed. Intel have always been one step ahead since the core series processors were first released, and now even if there is additional optimization, intel has boards now that have pci-e 3.0 support and igp support, you can't get that with amd at this point. I honestly don't see why anyone would buy amd at this point, unless your a total fanboy. I honestly loved amd when I had my phenom ii x3 720, that processor could unlock and was a beast for the price I paid. Now amd is just overpriced and under-performing.

Yeah I don't understand their pricing... I guess they're trying to hit the area right between the i5-2500k, and the i7-2600k, but they had to know the benchmark reviews were going to trash them...

Almost all of those transistors are in the cache. There is only 70 million transistors per module, and less than 35 million per core. That's much less than for a Sandy Bridge core. That alone explains why Bulldozer is so bad.

Waiting for Piledriver personally and see if it still works with my AM3+ motherboard, otherwise I may just see what's better at the time from Intel.

Hey guys! Don't buy an Intel rig! Wait for Bulldozer!!!!!!!!!!!@#@#@!!!

*Bulldozer ended up being a complete and utter let down*

Oh hey guys come on.. Just wait another 4-6 months for Bulldozer it'll get better... We promise..

Lol, I feel sorry for you guys. I really do. You wait for a *OMGGONNAOWNINTELMAN* processor, and get let down because it's power hungry and older generations are out performing it and you still come up with excuses. Keep waiting if you want, but in all honesty, why? You wanted to wait, you waited, you got kicked in the teeth, yet your still wanting to wait for another FX processor that's only clocked 300Mhz higher?

Either someones trolling or your just a die hard fanboy.

Edit - Not flaming or anything, I'm just saying. AMD kicked their customers in the mouth on this one. As much hype and all the attention it got, you guy's should have got something a lot better. Not to mention look how long they made you wait and you didn't even get what you hoped/should have got from them.

Who are you talking to? I don't see Jagged Steel in this thread.

Is the 8170 expected to bring something new to the table? When I look at the 8120 and the 8150, I don't really see any difference except for stock clockspeed. AMD needs to do more to differentiate the models, like more cache or additional features. Like I would never pay $50 more for a PhenomII x4 980 BE when the PhenomII x4 955 BE will clock almost as high.

Atleast there are compelling reasons for purchasing an i7-2600k over an i5-2500k if Hyperthreading and 2mb additional cache are desirable to you.

I just bought a SB setup, and installed Windows 7. I wanted to check my temps on the cpu so I ran IBT, and noticed I only got in the mid 50's in G Flops at stock. After installing service pack 1 for Windows 7, I now get mid 90's in G Flops at stock. So I think it is definitely possible that there can be an update that will optimize Bulldozer, i just dont have the patience to wait for it any lomger.
