That's the only way to unlock them.

FYI, I downloaded, modified, and flashed mine all in windows in about 2 minutes. Pretty sure rebooting took longer than the unlocking.

Hey guys I just got frustrated and took the card to the store, they were pretty understanding, especially since the bios switch failed to prevent this problem. I now got another 6950, however I notice it only has 2 dvi ports instead of 4 but since I use only 1 monitor im happy.

I do have another problem now though, whenever I go to certain website, particularly email, I get untrusted connection. Also windows updates fail to update, steam fails to autolog, microsoft security essentials doesnt update. I have no clue whats going on but it doesnt sound like a gpu problem

Wait... they were fine that you broke the card doing something that it wasn't intended to do? Something tells me that this was probably an easy fix, but whatever.

Are you sure the previous card got 4 DVIs?

Good to know the store let you do that. Must be the communication skills

Edit:

If you have a good working back-up, roll back, otherwise, do the repair or OS re-install.

He probably didn't say he flashed bios. Like all noobs that fail, he probably said it didn't work when he tried using it.

Well the guy at the store said this card could be unlocked because of the dual bios switch so I went to him directly. I dont see how I could be a noob that failed when the bios switch didnt even work in the first place.

That other problem has been fixed, i forgot the dates got messed up when i reset the cmos battery

Thanks to everyone else that actually tried to help

The main goal of unlocking a card is to install the bios of a 6970 onto it.
when you do this, with a 6950 card that already have a bios switch, you are supposed to install that bios onto the position nr2 on the bios switch ish, and not the nr1.
if you do it on the nr1, you have NO security of going back to something that works, as you already ****ed it up by removing the old bios, and there is NO bios @ switch position 2.

basically a dead card, although you could re install the stock bios if you use a on board GPU @ motherboard.

Um there was a bios on both switches so I am not sure what you are talking about, also I saved my bios before I did anything and only wrote on 1 bios

I also tried to reinstall the stock bios with my card in the second pcie and that did not work,

Finally I did not use a 6970 bios but used rbe to unlock my shaders from the 6950 bios
