2.0/2.1 Speaker Setup with TV

Thread Starter
I am looking at upgrading the sound for my bedroom TV. Nothing too over the top. I had considered a soundbar just for convenience, but I am now thinking some bookshelves on stands. As far as what bookshelves to get, active vs passive, and whether or not a receiver/amp is needed to take full advantage of the setup, I defer to you guys. Any recommendation would be appreciated. Budget would be about $200-300 for the speakers alone. Sub can be added later down the road I guess. Thanks.

Get the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and call it a day.

I know many people believe the BOSE might be overrated, but have you considered it? The sound quality is amazing. If you're going for a 2.1 speaker, then try the BOSE since your budget is quite high.

You need an amp with powered speakers? I thought you didn't. BOSE are not the route I want to go. I have considered polk. Customer reviews always seem fairly positive on their stuff. However, I will have to look at some expert reviews.

So one of my main questions still unanswered is if a receiver is required with active speakers. And if so or even with some passive ones, any recommendations on some cheap quality ones? Also, more suggestions on bookshelves or possibly even floor standing would be appreciated.

For $200-300 i would hit a combo of new and used - in the USA you could pick up a cheap amp/receiver on Craiglist ^^

If u need ideas for strictly active 2.1s no amps/receivers at that price point
