[ENG]Canon announces EOS-1D X: full-frame 18MP sensor, 14 fps, 204,800 top ISO...

Full title: Canon announces EOS-1D X: full-frame 18MP sensor, 14 fps, 204,800 top ISO, $6,800 price tag

Quote:
Stick a piece of gaffer tape over the unmistakable X, and Canon's latest EOS-1D pro-level camera will look virtually identical to every 1D model that came before it. But once you flip up the power slider, this new king of the jungle will hum like no other. Canon's phenomenally powerful EOS-1D X really sounds like the DSLR to rule them all. Its 18 megapixel full-frame sensor uses oversized pixels to battle noise and is supported by a pair of Digic 5+ imaging processors, which also help drive a 61-point high density reticular AF system, a top ISO setting of 204,000 (51,200 native), a 252-zone metering system, a 14 fps JPEG (or 12 fps RAW) burst mode and a built-in wired gigabit LAN connection, for remote shooting and image transfer

I really wish I could buy that. Imagine the pics that thing can take a night.

Sounds right in line with what would be developed after the EOS Mark IV, EOS 5DII and 7D. I mean, I think it was the 1DIII that could already do 10 FPS so to hear this is not *surprising*. Astounding? Oh heck yes very much so! Nice to see Canon kick up their metering zones though even more from the sounds of it. Price isn't too bad considering the Mark IV was originally somewhere in the $4-5k range.

That's awesome, but please make a successor to the 1100D. It really sucks. As a DSLR first timer I'm looking for a good camera to start up with. After reading many reviews the Nikon D3100 is still the best in it class. But the D3100 is some what bit old in my point of view. So, Canon or Nikon please release a new entry DSLR with surprises

Nah, don't like second hand products in fact it difficult to get a proper refurb over here in New Zealand therfore is not really a good option. Probably the best option is to wait for either a D3100 or a 1100D successor

That is boss. 14FPS is insane, especially at that resolution. Camera stuff is even more expensive than PC hardware. I do miss my 5d, but I have more fun with computers. With a $7000 body, were is the money for lenses? lol

Pretty cool but medium format is where it's at for me (at least for digital).

ISO values that high are more or less unusable though. Not sure why they're even included to be honest.

That having been said, this is the 35mm DSLR to end all. Wow.

Built in gigabit LAN is so smart too, though I think USB 3.0 matches the speed more or less now, no?
