Q9550 OC Problem - Page 3

Does your CPU fail with all three tests, or just one? I ask because mine as it is right now only fails the blend test and nothing I have done to it so far has got it to stable. By fail, I mean I run the test and within seconds I get a rounding error, on one core, then another, sometimes one will carry on for a while but eventually they all fail. The other 2 tests are stable for hours though, and I've been using this OC for like 6 months or so now and it's been rock stable 24/7.

I think I'll try some of the settings Valafar posted. Sorry if this is a threadjack btw

I had errors on one or two , the rest was okey with prime ...
Btw..
i guess i got it stable ... im with prime for 2 hours @ 3.6ghz , no errors ...

using 1.35000v...
CPU term: 1.4v
CPU pll : 1.57v
MCH core: 1.32v

Now for BF3 a Q9550 @ 3.4GHz would be enough as that game is more GPU intensive (something like Crysis 2)..

Now check out my testing in Crysis 2 at three different CPU speed (2.8GHz, 3.4GHz and 3.9GHz) and you'll see that CPU is playing a 2nd role here as GPU is doing most of the work..

Testings were done @ 1280 x 1024 resolution to make test very CPU intensive!!

Q9550 @ 2.8GHz and RAM @ 1066MHz (CL7)

Average FPS - 74

Q9550 @ 3.4GHz and RAM @ 1600MHz (CL9)

Average FPS - 77

Q9550 @ 3.9GHz and RAM @ 1224MHz (CL7)

Average FPS - 78.4

CHEERS..

Thank you very much ye that what i have guessed ...
btw i got it to 3.6ghz stable ... thanks very much specialy for Valafar
I have OCed my gfx aswell , i guess it will ROCK

Had 60-80 FPS with BFBC2 with Medium settings and 50 on High with AA and stuff ...

Now i have ti wait ... 6 days left

EDIT: I also attached alittle fan to the HUGE cpu fan i have .. now i get 68C with FULL load using P95

Well that's a bit too much of CPU Termination voltage for 3.6GHz..

My Q9550 does 3.6GHz with 1.20V Termination voltage 12 hrs Prime95 Large FFT stable..

Instead of going too much with CPU term try to up CPU Ref voltage until you get things stable..

Set CPU Term to 1.30V and then play with CPU Ref voltage (try with upping and if it doesn't work then try to lower it a bit)..

CPU Term and CPU Ref voltages are in the direct correlation with each other..

CHEERS..

Set the cpu Refs using this method here. So what you would do is:
#1 Set your CPU Term back to the stock 1.20
#2 Set the CPU Ref to .67
#3 Now go back and raise your CPU Term back to 1.32
#4 The CPU Ref will automatically scale to the new/raised CPU Term.

UD3 Owners Guide. Subscribe to that thread. It's pretty much everything you need to know about that board combined with the knowledge of numerous owners that have overclocked with it.

Read the first page especially. Take your time and try to understand what the different things do on the board. It's confusing at first but you'll get it.

I will try that today..

But at the moment i have error on one core testing 3.6Ghz ... before 2 days its was okey ...

My question is , do you think that 3.4Ghz works great with 1.3V and 3.6Ghz needs 1.35?!
0.05+v for 0.2Ghz ?!

Every chip is different. Hard to call it like that. Your 9550 is a C1 not EO so it could need a bit more juice for the same clocks as other chips.

Try setting these like this also:

CPU Clock Drive.......................: 800mv
PCI Express Clock Drive...............: 700mv

Set your CPU refs also, it helps.

Man respect for sitting in front of prime all day and night long
Why don`t you run LinX or intel Burn Test?
After some runs (eg. 20) my CPU never showed any instability or crashed.
And after these 20 runs of IBT (or LinX) you could still run prime forever

Really respect for beeing that patient!
Edit: It is pretty normal that you need more voltage at a certain point. The voltage doesn`t scale linear anymore. (At a certain point) This point is in your case the 3,5GHz.
For my CPU it is nearly the same. Everything below 3,6GHz needs ~1,25V. At 3,6GHz I need to up the voltage to ~1,3V
