is there anything you would recommend skipping?
thanks again

In that guide I don't do the short stroking, besides that everything else is fine. I left prefetch enabled like TC said, it does make the drive boot up a tiny bit faster from my experience.

Also you can disable unused windows features:
Turn off Unused Windows 7 Features

There are many feature in windows 7 that we often don't use.

Disabling unused features in Windows 7 will really help in speeding things up and reduce a little space.

Open up Programs and Features from Control Panel.
Click the Turn Windows features on or off from the left pane.
Now uncheck all the Feature that you don't use in Windows 7 [e.g. "Games"] and restart the system for the changes to take effect.

And here is infor on making sure Trim is set up properly.

TRIM Commands

Enable TRIM
Go to the Command Prompt and type:
fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

Disable TRIM
Go to the Command Prompt and type:
fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1

How do I know if TRIM is working in Windows 7?
Go to the Command Prompt and type:
fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)

did you do any tweaking?
i was just thinking of running SSDTweaker, good idea?
i am a real noob t this, first time ive had 2 hard drives lol
so just to clarify:
1) disconnect old HDD
2) boot up and update firmware, can this be done in AHCI mode or does it have to be in IDE, someone told me it HAS to be in IDE, please could you confirm
3) make sure SSD is in AHCI mode and install windows as normal
4) once windows is installed should i
a: install drivers onto SSD and desired programmes
b: connect HDD, format it in 'My Computer', reboot then install all drivers onto HDD and desired programmes onto SSD
a or b?
5) run SSDTweaker
6) Done
good or bad plan?

P.S. when installing programmes, to decide whether i want it on HDD or SSD an option comes to direct where you want the programme to be installed, then i have to make sure i direct it to the HDD if i want it installed on the HDD dont i? as it will be automatically directing me to SSD as it will have the OS on it?
i am asking in here just to do it the best way other M4 owners are doing it
thanks guys! help is much appreciated

sean: thanks for that info

thanks for the reply, clears up a lot of issues i had

is it necessary to do tweaks? i might just do the simplest ones to reduce chances of something going wrong

how can i stop the SSD from being filled by garbage from windows?

thanks again

Just make a system image before you do the tweaks and do all the ones inthe quote from twocables

You can move your temp files folder to the hdd, but it isn't needed. I'll get back to I with a guide when I'm home
